Cmw, creator of WinPwn (great software huh?) updated his site
(http://winpwn.com) yesterday updating us on the status of WinPwn 3.0. He said:

WinPwn 2.5 for PC has been released as promised by cmw. He has released it as a Beta because there are still the chance of some unfound bugs showing up. So please let us know if you have any problems so we can try to find a solution.
Here are my custom Start Up Screen and Recovery Screen for my iPhone (2G). I’ll be posting my 3G version soon as well as a couple unbranded ones in the forum thread for this post. This is honestly my first attempt at making custom boot and restore images. Much more to come. Hope you like them.
WinPwn 2.0.0.4 has been released for PC users so they can now upgrade to 2.0.1 firmware on their iPhones and iPhone 3G. This will currently only jailbreak and optionally activate iPhone 3G, but it will fully unlock, jailbreak and activate first gen iPhones:
CMW has been working hard trying to get WinPWN ready even before the Dev Team released the xPwn open source tool kit. Well Windows users wait no more, it seems a few days with xPwn was all it took and CMW has managed to deliver. WinPwn 2.0 is here and works on iPhone’s, Ipod Touch and jailbreaks and activates the iPhone 3G (no unlock for 3G).
Support for WinXP and Vista 32/64bit. Note Windows 2003/2008 server (Yes SERVER) are not supported neither is Windows 95 or Windows 3.11
- You MUST do a full uninstall of winpwn before installing the new version
- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes ( Currently 7.7)
- WinPwn uses 300MB of ram at peak due to the ipsw being extracted in memory
- You must first click browse and load an IPSW to use WinPwn (i thought this was clear)
- For 2.0 only the *5A347_Restore.ipsw files are valid. The 345 image will not work
- If you see Failed to load image catalog/payload catalog, this is fine and won’t cause problems
- If you already have service with AT&T do not activate or install Youtube Fix

I’ll be posting my personal mods to my 2.0 iPhone, first was getting my caller ID working so I knew when my girlfriends mom was calling. Second is adding Trinidad and Tobago to my address book. I wanted to be able to add my friends and work contacts with full addresses (in both islands) to my address book.
This was a pretty easy find, and is pretty easy to do once you are familiar with using WinSCP or FUGU (or any other SFTP app), and you have OpenSSH installed via Cydia on your iPhone running 2.0.
It allows you to choose Trinidad and Tobago from the country list when editing or creating a new contact, and from there you get asked for Street, City, Island (Trinidad or Tobago), instead of Zip, State etc..
If you think this should be set up differently, let me know, but I think this works nicely.
Here are the Simple instructions on how to get this file onto your iPhone from your Mac or PC:
Get your IP address from the WiFi settings on your iPhone by tapping the blue arrow (e.g.: 192.168.100.130) Open up your favorite SFTP app and use the IP of your iPhone, username will be ‘root’ and the password is ‘alpine’ then wait for it to log in.
Go to the following folder on your phone using the SFTP app (usually the window on the right)
System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookFramework/
Download the file ‘ABAddressFormats.plist’ to your computer (for backup) and then upload and replace the ABAddressFormats.plist file that you downloaded earlier.
Reboot your iPhone.
(and you can uninstall OpenSSH via Cydia if you are concerned with it draining battery or security etc)
The results should be like those shown below. Enjoy!
PWNED is out and working great, but only for Mac at the moment and PC users seem to be feeling a little left out. Luckily there is a simple solution thanks to Sleepers.net and a user named Kinetic-X. You simply use WinPWN to pwn your iPhone to 1.1.4, use Installer to install BootNeuter and neuter your baseband, then restore in iTunes 7.7 to a custom 2.0 firmware that was built on a Mac with PWNED 2.0.
The step-by-step instructions are below, the links to the files you need are also there. You can refer to the original post for more info. Follow them carefully and you will have an unlocked first gen iPhone running 2.0.
Step 2: Install BootNeuter (Available Via Installer).
Step 3: Run BootNeuter and have it Neuter your iphone
Step 4: Make sure your iTunes version is at 7.7
Step 5: Grab a pre-created IPSW Made with PWNAGE 2.0 Mac. If you dont have one made you can grab one here: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4305453/iThor__s_iPhone_2.0_Custom_Firmware_Vanilla_(5A347)
Step 6: Put your phone into recovery or DFU mode. Note that some users report DFU works best while others are reporting normal recovery mode works best. If you have an error, try swapping modes and toggle between these two types of recovery until one works.
Step 7: In iTunes Shif+Click the Restore button and find your custom IPSW Firmware file.
