Ustream Live Broadcaster | Stream Live Video From iPhone

Ustream announced Wednesday the availability of Ustream Live Broadcaster in the iPhone App Store. The company touts that it is the first live broadcast software made available for the iPhone and iPod touch. With it, anyone can broadcast live video from their phone.

“The Ustream Live Broadcaster is a free app that enables live streaming on 3G or Wifi, and users can notify their Twitter communities when they start broadcasting, and interact with their viewers using chat or Twitter through Ustream’s Social Stream,” the company said.

The application is said to require the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1 or later. It allows polls, works in portrait mode, can auto-record, and can record and save for upload later. Recordings can be shared on Ustream, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. The free 6.1MB download is available through iTunes.

(Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Qik (available in Cydia & now the App Store for a while now) do the same thing?)

iPhone OS 3.0 Video/Video Editing on iPhone 2G & 3G?

Our Pagaman1, has discovered that you can enable the display of video and the Video-Editing on the iPhone 3G and EDGE. So technically you can use some functions reserved exclusively all’iPhone 3GS also on our previous models.

Everything you tell in this article (which will be constantly updated) is in exclusive iSpazio. There is only one small problem, or we can no longer take pictures with the camera, which will remain closed. Right now I’m just hacking on some files to try to maintain the video functions without losing the photos.
The screenshot that you find below were made from my iPhone EDGE:

In short we can offer you a guide, always exclusive iSpazio to try the new features on your iPhone. In the meantime I continue to play with the plist, trying to derive something really useful for all before writing the guide. Stay Tuned!

Could The Next iPhone Be Called iPhone Video?

TUAW has received an anonymous tip stating that the new iPhone will be called the ‘iPhone Video’. The tipster said that AT&T’s website will be updated to show the iPhone Video as a model selection when looking for support for Apple devices.

A screenshot showing the select box in action is attached below.

Currently only Original iPhone and iPhone 3G are listed as choices; however, this screenshot could be from a unpublished website that will go live once AT&T begins selling the device.

Earlier today an AppleInsider report showed evidence of the new iPhone in Carphone Warehouse’s system. The phones were referenced as iPhone32GbV3. TUAW suggests that perhaps the V stands for video?

Video iPhone and Magnetometer Brings New App Possibilities

A video iPhone with a magnetometer would allow for exciting new application possibilities, according to a MacRumors report.

Live video footage could be combined with computer graphics to create an Augmented Reality application. Game researcher Blair MacIntyre demonstrates what this might look like in a demo video.

MacRumors suggests that the inclusion of a magnetometer (Digital Compass) could allow for determine your absolute position. You could use this to pointi your iPhone’s camera at a building and have it tell you what building it is by overlaying data on top of the image. A similar application might show information about stars and constellations simply by pointing your iPhone towards the sky.

A more complex sensor system could also make this mockup application a reality as well.

iPhone 3.0 BETA | Video Editing?

The founder of Austrian site Benm.at claims to have found multiple unused graphical controls that relate directly to video editing. Among the controls are grab points that would let users define the start and end of clips as well as repeating, tile graphics and references to an ‘edit bar.’

Brought to English readers through Gizmodo, the rumor doesn’t yet show an actual video editor but further supports evidence of video capturing as a staple feature in iPhone 3.0.

People familiar with Apple’s plans have previously told AppleInsider that the camera in the next-genration iPhone should include video capture abilities, an assertion supported by a screen cap for MobileMe sync that alluded to uploading video.

More recently, alleged Taiwan insiders have also said that the camera itself may be upgraded to 3.2 megapxiels, suggesting that upgraded hardware video performance is just as important to Apple as software features.

Apple has typically downplayed the importance of the iPhone’s camera and has kept the same 2-megapixel camera since its handset’s introduction in June 2007; the absence has drawn criticism from those noting that significantly less expensive phones have had video recordings in place for years. More direct competitors to the iPhone, like LG’s Viewty, have even made on-camera editing a central feature rather than one feature among many.

New iPhone Info. Leaked

Information has been leaked from a source inside AT&T regarding the new iPhone. The source who is “pretty high up in AT&Ts food chain” provided the following information to the BoyGeniusReport.

- New iPhone announcement around mid-June (duh)
- New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
- The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
- Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
- AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
- Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
- They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
- Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
- The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

Mini vMac for the iPhone - Mac OS Emulation - Updated

OK - Mini vMac is really cool and brought a HUGE smile to my face… Totally reminds me of when I was a kid and our old II and SE etc. I got it working on my iPhone running OS 7.0.1, 7.5.5 and 6.0.8. Check out the developers website here. You can install by adding apt.namedfork.net/iphone to your Cydia repositories.

How to Use:

Tap with two fingers to toggle screen size.
Swipe up with two fingers to show the keyboard, down to hide it.
Swipe left with two fingers to insert disks.
Swipe right with two fingers for settings.

Where to get the .ROM file and .dsk files

I got the vMac.ROM file from here: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Bit/6458/vMac.html
I got .dsk from here: http://www.geocities.com/basicman10549/

ROM Installation

The ROM file must be called vMac.ROM and placed in one of the following:
/Applications/minivmac.app/
/Library/MacOSClassic/
~/Library/MacOSClassic/

Disk Images

Mini vMac will look for disk images with .dsk and .img extensions in:
/Applications/minivmac.app/
/Library/MacOSClassic/
~/Library/MacOSClassic/
To insert disk images, swipe left with two fingers and the list of disks will appear. Disks already inserted will be greyed out.

Suspend

If you press the home button while the emulated mac has disks inserted, it will suspend. To quit Mini vMac properly, eject all disks before pressing home.

Settings

Swipe right with two fingers to show the settings dialog and change the virtual keyboard layout and opacity.

On the bottom of the settings view, there are Interrupt and Reset buttons.
