- You can now pause apps by clicking the icon while it downloads/installs.
- Tripple clicking the microphone button (attached to included headphones) now goes to the previous song played/in a playlist. (Credit to Sealit).
- New podcasts & videos had “filled” blue bubbles next to them to indicate that they were new, but with 2.1, if you have “half-played” a podcast or video, it will include a half filled blue bubble. (Credit to Dangeresque).

That’s right! It seems that there is no modem/baseband update for first gen iPhone who update from 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 to 2.1. This means that first gen iPhone owners can update to to 2.1 and their unlocked modem/baseband remains. This is great news if you need the latest bug fixes or like me just like to keep up to date even if it means suffering the consequences of being an early adopter.
What’s the catch this time? Well as always you will loose all third party Apps NOT installed with the AppStore, i.e. anything installed with Installer or Cydia. You will also loose the jailbreak and ability to install third party apps via Cydia or Installer or have file access via AFP or SSH.
The Dev Team are working on a update to PWNAGE that will bring back full read/write capabilites as well as your favorite third party app installers Cydia and Installler. Until then if you dare, enjoy 2.1 the way Apple intended, but unlocked of course.

Apple released iPhone firmware 2.1 today for 2G and 3G iPhones and lists the updates as bug fixes and patches to security. If your iPhone is Jailbroken or Unlocked I would wait until there is an update to the PWNAGE Tool from the Dev Team. - To get firmware 2.1, connect your iPhone to your computer using iTunes 8 and click Check for Update.
Update includes:

The Dev Team released PWNAGE Tool 2.0.3 yesterday for creating custom 2.0.2 firmware files for your iPhone and iPod Touch and a new QuickPWN for quick and easy Jialbreaking of your device. Their release was not without hiccups as there were many users (including myself), having trouble with permissions, passwods not being saved and Cydia not installing apps. I was able to find a couple solutions to the problems and posted them in the forum.
The Dev Team have since announced that they will be releasing an Update to PWNAGE Tool 2.0.3 sometime soon that will be delivered via the a sparkle update in PWNAGE.
We’ve had some issues with iPod touch devices and the latest version of PwnageTool for the Mac, in certain conditions incorrect permissions will be used and the keychain doesn’t save passwords. So hold on and wait for the next release, we’ll push out the updated version via Sparkle as soon as it is tested (it is being tested right now). We have also encountered some issues with the Windows Beta of QuickPwn, and we have a release candidate here that should fix the issues seen with 64-bit Windows versions and should be able to be used with all versions of Windows, but as with all beta software other bugs may be present. 5 hours ago
There were also some users who reported problems with QuickPWN and the Dev Team have released an updated version called
QuickPWN RC2 that should fix these problems.
OpenClip is/was an open framework for implementing the Cocoa NSPasteboard functionality to the iPhone. OpenClip was an effort to work around the limitations of OS X on the iPhone by allowing apps to read/write between each other. Apple is disabling that feature in future firmwares.
Herr Gruber pointed out that OpenClip used a loophole that allowed applications to read the sandboxes of other apps, allowing them to share data. However this seems to be a violation of the Terms of Use of Apples SDK. The upcoming firmware 2.1 will not allow that.
Apps that use OpenClip will no longer be able to copy and paste between applications. However, applications can still utilize a persistent way to store data inside the application, meaning that copy and paste within the app will still work fine. And on top of that, apps that utilize only one form (either copy or paste) can disable interface elements when Apple axes OpenClip.
OpenClip was never supposed to be a longterm solution, but rather an example of how easy it could be done. A sort of “In your face” move to Apple. Let’s hope that Apple realizes how easy it was to implement and use and will make this framework available to developers and native apps in the iPhone OS.

iPhone 3G users are reporting that they are receiving SMS’s from Apple and AT&T prompting them to update to 2.0.2 to hopefully resolve 3G service issues.
“A free message from Apple and AT&T: An important software update for iPhone 3G has been available on iTunes since this past Monday. To get it, simply synch your iPhone 3G with iTunes and click the “Check For Update” button.”
Apple is aware of the 3G problem and insist that it only affect 2% of 3G owners. They hope to resolve this with the mentioned 2.0.2 iPhone firmware update.
I just popped in my AT&T Sim in my AT&T activated 3G and I didn’t get the message, oh well. Off to test the new Reb Sims that arrived earlier. Check soon for video.

Everyone that has an iPhone 3G that is either not on a supported carrier or not authorized to be unlocked (like those sold in Belgium, Italy, and Hong Kong) is sitting there/here with one eye on the iPhone 3G waiting for it to unlock itself magically and the other eye is on the iPhone Dev Team waiting for them to pull a rabbit out their hat. If you are like me, your third eye trying to contact GeoHot via telekinesis to find out if he is making any progress with the 3G unlock.
The following I pieced together from Hakcint0sh, the iPhone Wiki, the Dev Team Blog and GeoHot’s blog.

I have not been giving Installer an easy time recently. Let’s face it, it was buggy, it didn’t have any useful sources and it didn’t have any new apps listed. I personally think it was maybe released a little too early, or too late. But, today I installed my first apps with Installer.
Thankfully a new update to Community Sources was released today and it included a few more sources and thankfully fixed all the errors that was practically making Installer useless before. There has still not been any official post or update form Rip Dev’s Blog.
The apps listed seem to be pretty much the same as those on Cydia except for Kate and some a couple others, hopefully now that the bugs are being fixed we’ll start to see allot more new apps, games and themes and some old favaorites soon. I am missing MobileFinder

The Dev Team have made an announcement that the latest installment of their new kick arse unlocking and custom firmware tool, PWNAGE will be getting an update today to help all of us update to an unlocked 2.0.1 firmware on our first gen iPhones and Jailbreak our 3G iPhones. The still strongly advise against updating if you have an iPhone 3G and would like to unlock it via a software unlock that the Dev Team are working very hard on.

The Dev Team have posted an update since the release of iPhone firmware 2.0.1 saying that they are working hard at ironing out the few of the upgrades made to their PWNAGE Tool. In the meanwhile it is strongly advised that you DO NOT update if you have a iPhone 3G and are planning to unlock it some time soon as the baseband will be upgraded. First Gen iPhone owners should also wait on a new PWNAGE Tool that the dev’s say will keep our first gen iPhones completely free and unlocked.
As soon as testing is finished a PwnageTool update will be released that will allow you to safely update either device with all current PwnageTool features still in place and you’ll have the option to disable the baseband update.
