iPhone OS 3.0 Release Times

A few websites are reporting this morning that Hong Kong sent a network-wide SMS notifying iPhone owners that OS 3.0 will be available on June 18th, 01:00 local time. That puts it at

10:00am Pacific
12:00pm Central
01:00pm Eastern (Trinidad & Tobago time)
06:00pm Greenwich Mean Time

Personally based on Apple’s announcements coming at 10am PT, this time doesn’t surprise me. Now we wait & see.

Next Gen iPhone(s) coming to Trinidad and Tobago in June?

After playing around with the new firmware and taking some screen shots I ran into something very interesting for us TrinBagonians. Here is a screen shot of the Region Formats setting in the International Settings in firmware 3.0.

It clearly shows Trinidad and Tobago as an option. Even though the formatting they have seems to be incorrect (4085551212), it’s a great sign that either Digicel, bMobile or AmericaMovil (see update below) are going to be selling and servicing the iPhone Next Gen.

I have installed the 3.0 Beta on my iPhone 2G that was Unlocked via PWNAGE Tool on firmware 2.2.1. I downloaded the 3.0 Beta IPSW and used the shift/alt and click Update (NOT RESTORE) and updated my 2G to 3.0. The process was smooth even though it took very long. I was able to kepp the unlock and activation, but I lost Cydia and the Jailbreak.

Update

I am being told by a friend who is a good source of Telecom Info here in Trinidad and he is telling/remindaing me that AmericaMovil aka Claro is coming to Trinidad and currently carries the iPhone in Jamaica and other Caribbean and South American Countries. Claro bought the rights to Laqtel’s 3G license recently here in Trinidad and Tobago and is currently in negotiations with TSTT on placing antenna on TSTT towers. So we will see how soon we get the iPhone and from whom.

Apple registers OS X trademark here in Trinidad and Tobago - Dropping the Mac prefix.

Apple has made a move to drop the Mac prefix in front of it’s OS X brand. The move is seen by many as a move to separate itself from being a computer company as it’s OS X operating system runs on many different devices made by Apple.

“The Cupertino-based company initially filed for its trademark in Trinidad and Tobago less than a week after the June 2008 conference, where lobby banners first indicated a split where Apple would distinguish between OS X Leopard, the version of its operating system for traditional computers, and OS X iPhone, the modified platform that supports both its namesake cellphone and the iPod touch.”

I would love for someone to let me know wht would Apple choose Trinidad and Tobago to register it’s trademark?

After doing a little online dogging round I found the following on the WDALAW website:

“General Information

The trademarks and trade names in the Island of Trinidad and Tobago must be requested according to the procedure provided by law for industrial property at The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) which is the department authorized for such purposes, within the provisions by the laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Recently Laws relating to Industrial Property Law have been amended and promulgated to provide a wider range of trademark protection in Trinidad and Tobago on behalf of the international community. The trademark registration in Trinidad and Tobago after being obtained guarantees the full right of the owners of trademarks and patents.”

It seems that companies like Apple may register trademarks in Trinidad and Tobago as they are protected internationally and no one (competitors) in the USA would never know of their new registrations and trademarks until they were/are ready to announce it publicly.

Back in Jan 2007, Apple also registered iPhone in Trinidad and Tobago trademark and patent office under the name Ocean Telecom - Via iPhone Wikipedia and Mad4MobilePhones

“…company called Ocean Telecom (rumoured to be a front for Apple) will be granted acceptance of their iPhone trade mark. Ocean Telecom filed their trade mark application on 26th September 2006, claiming priority of 27th March 2006 from a trade mark application they claim to have filed on that date in Trinidad and Tobago”

All these Apple trademarks and iPhone disputes, and still no Apple Store in Trinidad & Tobago, and no official support for the iPhone from a local carrier. We have been used..

iPhone 2.2 Caller ID Fix and Extended Location Bundles for Trinidad & Tobago - Caller ID Works!!

For the people who run iPhone 2.2 on the iPhone and would like to have Caller ID working along with a customized carrier service experience.

The number one thing that a lot of people have been complaining about with every update, and recently with the 2.2 iPhone Firmware update is Caller Id - that one’s simple! Here we go:

Let’s try that again.

This is Caller ID Fix test file for India , Montenegro , Trinidad & Tobago and Cyprus. There are many more over on this thread on hackint0sh.org - Thanks to Frank8 for his help with this.

Download Trinidad & Tobago Caller ID Fix:
http://rapidshare.com/files/16806215…oneformat.html

Navigate to System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework/Default.phoneformat
Backup the Default.phoneformat file on your iPhone, and replace it with the new file you downloaded. Reboot your iPhone, that’s it!

Custom Trinidad & Tobago Carrier Bundles for Digicel and Bmobile

thanks to Kofster

Just make sure you have Open SSH installed on your Jesus phone and you are using an sftp client like Cyberduck or Fugu, WinSCP etc.

Digicel_TT.bundle.zip
bmobile_TT.bundle.zip

  1. drop the carrier bundles in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles.
  2. Then, with MobileTerminal installed (via Cydia), type in su and hit enter.
  3. at the prompt, type in alpine and hit enter
  4. Type in cd /System/Library/”Carrier Bundles” and hit enter
  5. Type in ln -s Digicel_TT.bundle 374130 and hit enter
  6. Type in ln -s bmobile_TT.bundle 37412 and hit enter.
  7. When you’ve done that, navigate to your Settings > General > Reset > ResetNetwork Settings
  8. When the phone restarts, you’ll see a screen like this in the ‘Phone Preferences:

Bmobile Services Menu

Digicel Services Menu

Digicel Serices

For iPhone 3G users, because the iPhone 3G does not have a software unlock as yet, the baseband is unable to read the MCC and MTN numbers from the SIM cards. Therefore, even if you try to create symlinks to the MCC information, the iPhone 3G still will not generate those lovely screens like the silver and black (2G) iPhone owners get. However, all you have to do it replace the Unknown.bunble bundle in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles with the ones below.

Digicel-Unknown.bundle.zip
bmobile-Unknown.bundle.zip

iPhone LockScreen Widget SmashUp - DigiClock, Calendar, Weather, Status Notifications

I have put together a smash up of some of the new Widgets that are now out there for WinterBoard. Download it here

To install these for now you’ll need to SSH into your iPhone/Touch and place them in the /var/stash/themes folder.. If you are not in Trinidad and Tobago, you’ll need to edit the “configureme.js” file in the Calendar Weather Lockscreen.theme (or DigiClock Calendar Weather Lockscreen.theme) folder. To get your local weather settings, please check out page four of this post and edit the “configureme.js” file accordingly.

There are two versions of the clock, there is the digital version and the analog version, to use the digital version you need to replace the “LockFont” (clock font) with a blank font in /system/Library/fonts/cache/. You can find the blank LockFont here. (don’t try to use both at the same time)

***** Be sure to backup your original LockFont file *****

There is one problem with using the digital clock, your call numbers and names will be hard to read as the images that make up the clock don’t disappear when you are making or receiving a call.. Other than that, simply copy them to your themes dir, fire up winterboard and turn them on. If you have any questions or problems setting this up please let me know either in the comments or the Forum.

Add Trinidad and Tobago to your iPhone Address Book on 2.0

I’ll be posting my personal mods to my 2.0 iPhone, first was getting my caller ID working so I knew when my girlfriends mom was calling. Second is adding Trinidad and Tobago to my address book. I wanted to be able to add my friends and work contacts with full addresses (in both islands) to my address book.

Download the ABAddressFormats.plist.zip file here

This was a pretty easy find, and is pretty easy to do once you are familiar with using WinSCP or FUGU (or any other SFTP app), and you have OpenSSH installed via Cydia on your iPhone running 2.0.

It allows you to choose Trinidad and Tobago from the country list when editing or creating a new contact, and from there you get asked for Street, City, Island (Trinidad or Tobago), instead of Zip, State etc..

If you think this should be set up differently, let me know, but I think this works nicely.

Here are the Simple instructions on how to get this file onto your iPhone from your Mac or PC:

  1. Download the ABAddressFormats.plist.zip file here
  2. Get your IP address from the WiFi settings on your iPhone by tapping the blue arrow (e.g.: 192.168.100.130) Open up your favorite SFTP app and use the IP of your iPhone, username will be ‘root’ and the password is ‘alpine’ then wait for it to log in.
  3. Go to the following folder on your phone using the SFTP app (usually the window on the right)

    System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBookFramework/

  4. Download the file ‘ABAddressFormats.plist’ to your computer (for backup) and then upload and replace the ABAddressFormats.plist file that you downloaded earlier.
  5. Reboot your iPhone.
  • (and you can uninstall OpenSSH via Cydia if you are concerned with it draining battery or security etc)

The results should be like those shown below. Enjoy!
