Blackra1n Released

GeoHot has released his BlackRa1n jailbreak for Windows users only.

BlackRa1n should work on all devices using OS 3.0 and up. Please note that the new iPod touch requires a tethered jailbreak. Meaning, if you let the battery die you will need to use BlackRa1n to boot it again.

Also, its important to note that BlackRa1n does not hactivate your iPhone. This means that you must be using an official Apple carrier for activation purposes.

No word yet on a Mac version.

You can download the jailbreak utility from here.

iPhone OS 3.0 Now Pushes Notes

Apple has enabled push synchronization of notes via Mobile Me for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware, according to an iSpazio report.

Just write a note in the iPhone, and it will be automatically sent to the server and consequently display a window on your computer that notifies you of the synchronize notes. Once you approve of the sync you can find your notes in the Mail application as a MobileMe Note

Rock Your Phone | 2nd Alternative App Store

Rock Your Phone, an alternative app store for Cydia Store or Apple’s AppStore, is now open for business! First, Cydia Store opened and is now challenging Apple’s AppStore and now, Rock Your Phone has joined Cydia Store and is challenging Apple.

At the moment, Rock Your Phone only has 5 applications for sale, one being free (for limited time). Rock Your Phone does offer a 10 day trial unlike Cydia or Apple which is awesome! I can’t tell you how many applications I’ve boughten from the AppStore and to find out they are horribly unstable and sometimes they aren’t even what I expected. So, Rock your iPhone having a 10 day trial is a huge plus for me.

Head over to RockYourPhone.com to get a RockID and download their desktop client (Windows and Intel Mac OSX - no PowerPC) and install it and install Rock Your Phone on your iPhone and start downloading some applications!

World of Apple writes:

MyAppleGuide writes:
Last week, we received anonymous tips from two different sources that hint at an Apple media event in late March - possibly March 24th. Apple is said to be announcing a new Mac mini, iMacs with the new NVIDIA chipset, Mac Pros with Xeon processors along with a pleasant ’surprise’.

It has been

572 days since the last Mac mini refresh,

Screenshots of Snow Leopard Features

Screenshots of the latest Snow Leopard build show some of the new features coming to Mac OS X.

The screenshots are published by World of Apple and are taken of Mac OS X 10.6 build 10A261.

Put Back Trash
- you can now restore a file or folder you deleted to its original location

Stacks Folder Navigation
- you can now navigate through folders using the stacks feature

Keyboard Shortcuts Preference Pane
- the new keyboard shortcuts preference pane sees commands divided into categories which are shown at the left hand side of the window

video demonstrating this functionality has also been published.

Early release unlikely

Meanwhile, rumors of an early release of Snow Leopard are unlikely to come to pass. A presentation slide from one Apple director had raised hopes for a public release sometime during the first quarter of 2009, though developers speaking to both World of Apple and AppleInsider suggest this won’t be technically possible given the current state of the software, which still requires considerable refinement.

Another rumor that may not come true, at least in its reported form, is the inclusion of QuickTime Pro features in the complimentary version of QuickTime Player that’s due to ship with Snow Leopard. Since reports on the matter first surfaced earlier this month, people familiar with previous Mac OS X beta tests have reported that Apple routinely enabled Pro features in versions of QuickTime Player seeded with builds of both Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.5 Leopard to provide developers unfettered access to test those functions.

QuickLook Icons

QuickLook Finder icons, a feature present in some of the first external builds of Snow Leopard, have also disappeared in recent seedings.

Early Screenshots of Google Chrome for Mac

Update to: Google Plans The Release of Chrome for the Mac

Some very early screenshots of Google Chrome for Mac have been posted to show the progress made thus far.

In his blog pinkerton writes “It’s Alive!”.
The entire team made a tremendous amount of progress getting the cross-platform model and controller classes scaffolded, topped off with a Cocoa UI (with similar strides on Linux using Gtk). We were at the point where you could create new windows and tabs (and close them too) using the shared code, which would spawn/quit associated renderer processes. It was pretty exciting to watch them come and go in Activity Monitor, knowing how close we were to getting bits on the screen.

This week, everything came together and we can now load web pages in the renderer processes and display them in tabs. Here’s a screenshot of the very first time I ran Mac Chromium and loaded a webpage:

Google Plans The Release of Chrome for Mac

On Friday, Google said it hopes to release Chrome versions for Mac OS X and Linux in the near future. Product Manager, Brian Rakowski says Google plans to release Chrome for Mac and Linux before the first half of 2009.

Googles current version of Chrome is only for PC. However its latest update is filling in missing pieces needed in order to attain wider usage.

A basic level Mac version of Chrome or “test shell” that can show Web pages is already available.“That team now is able to render most Web pages pretty well. But in terms of the user experience, it’s very basic,” says Rakowski.” We have not spent any time building out features. We’re still iterating on making it stable and getting the architecture right.”
