Kate 2.0 now available for iPhone and Touch 2.0+ firmware

Rip Dev have released Kate for iPhone and iPod Touch via Installer. Two things to note are that the Equalizer will no longer be a feature and this version has no uninstall yet, so make sure to backup your iPhone/Touch before just to be safe.

If you have purchased Kate in the past the license is still working on the new firmware. If you have upgraded from a iPhone/Touch to a iPhone 3G (or swapped phones) you can contact Rip Dev to have then update their system.

What is Kate?

Kate is an unique package of little tools for your iPhone that can be installed separately from each other. Each module provides its own set of features aimed to make your use of iPhone more productive and fun. Customization, business tools, quick contacts search, system font replacement and many more — constantly growing as we add new tools and functionality.

What’s new with version 2.0

  • All Components:
    • First release for firmware 2.0. Can be installed from the repository http://i.ripdev.com/ using Installer 4.
    • All included components reworked to work under 2.0.x with the same functionality. Rip Dev will expand on the feature set soon.
    • Existing subscriptions will work; you can also request a trial or check your subscription by visiting Settings > RiP Dev > RiP Dev Products preference pane.
  • EQ:
    • This component will not be supported under firmware 2.0 due to significant changes in the audio subsystem.
  • Uninstall:
    • This component is not yet supported (will be included in the next version).

Rip Dev released 1.3 yesterday and along with it came some new features, improvements on old features and of course a new name.

Firstly, Kate (Caterpillar) is a commercial application (you gotta pay for this bad boy), some may not think the app is worth it, so the developer has conveniently allows users to get a three day trial. Kate adds some really neat functions and improvements, but at the same time, as a past Caterpillar user, I can attest that prior versions were buggy, and clashed dangerously with other apps.
