Enabling MMS on iPhone 2G (bmobile TT)

Getting MMS back on your iPhone 2G (bmobile) (manual way)

01) Download this (patched CommCenter)

02) SSH into your iPhone & navigate to

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/

where you will see your original CommCenter. Back that up. Then replace it with the downloaded CommCenter.
03) When it is in place, right click & select properties & make sure the Octal is set to 0755

04) Then go to

/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app

& locate the M68AP.plist file. (You will need a .plist editor for this part. http://ipodrobot.comhas one)

05) Copy the M68AP.plist file out of the iPhone & with the .plist editor insert

<key>microphone</key>
<true/>
<key>mms</key>
<true/>

<key>opengles-1</key>
<true/>

the MMS code as seen above in between the microphone & opengles settings. Save this version & after backing up the original from the iPhone replace it with this edited version.

06) Reboot iPhone.

07) Once done go to

Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

& for bmobile customers insert these settings into the fields.
-APN: mms
-MMSC: http://192.168.210.104/mmrelay.app
-MMS Proxy: 192.168.210.104:8080

08) Reboot once more.

09) That should be it. You should now have MMS on your iPhone 2G once again (if you had it before using ActivateMMS2G during the 3.0 days).

Credit goes to Whiterat for his work on this patch.

ActivateMMS2G Brings MMS To iPhone (2G)s

Released today via Cydia. Though I’ve tried it personally with no results. So far its pretty successful at bringing the MMS interface to a 2G iPhone in the Messages & Photos apps. Maybe its a local issue…

Update
After playing around with it a little more & some luck I was able to get it to work! For those wanting to have MMS on their iPhone (2G) (even though Apple said it would not be possible) these are the (bmobile (Trinidad & Tobago)) settings:

-APN: mms
-MMSC:
http://192.168.210.104/mmrelay.app
-MMS Proxy: 192.168.210.104:8080

I’d like to thank my friend Zane for initially telling me about this being available in Cydia as well providing me with those settings, which took a little tinkering to get working properly. Also Kevon, who commeneted on this subject.

Next Gen iPhone(s) coming to Trinidad and Tobago in June?

After playing around with the new firmware and taking some screen shots I ran into something very interesting for us TrinBagonians. Here is a screen shot of the Region Formats setting in the International Settings in firmware 3.0.

It clearly shows Trinidad and Tobago as an option. Even though the formatting they have seems to be incorrect (4085551212), it’s a great sign that either Digicel, bMobile or AmericaMovil (see update below) are going to be selling and servicing the iPhone Next Gen.

I have installed the 3.0 Beta on my iPhone 2G that was Unlocked via PWNAGE Tool on firmware 2.2.1. I downloaded the 3.0 Beta IPSW and used the shift/alt and click Update (NOT RESTORE) and updated my 2G to 3.0. The process was smooth even though it took very long. I was able to kepp the unlock and activation, but I lost Cydia and the Jailbreak.

Update

I am being told by a friend who is a good source of Telecom Info here in Trinidad and he is telling/remindaing me that AmericaMovil aka Claro is coming to Trinidad and currently carries the iPhone in Jamaica and other Caribbean and South American Countries. Claro bought the rights to Laqtel’s 3G license recently here in Trinidad and Tobago and is currently in negotiations with TSTT on placing antenna on TSTT towers. So we will see how soon we get the iPhone and from whom.

Bmobile Carrier Logo for your iPhone

Here is a simple tutproal on how to get the Bmobile carrier logo on your iPhone or iPhone 3G. This is useful/cool if you are in Trinidad & Tobago or a Bmobile customer in the Caribbean. To get started simply download the following Bmobile carrier logos:

Default_CARRIER_ATT.png

FSO_CARRIER_ATT.png

Then using SSH, log into your device and navigate to:

    Code:
    /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/ATT_US.bundl

Drag both of the carrier logo files there
    Then navigate to

    Code:
    /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/Unknown.bundle

Drag both of the carrier logo files there

Then open Make It Mine on your iPhone and set your carrier as ATT (not AT&T)
Respring phone (if necessary) and voila

Delivery Reports for bmobile iPhones

We all know the iPhone can a lot of stuff but it seems that Steve & the boys in Cupertino may have skipped over one or two little things. Personally SMS delivery reports was one I feel falls into this list. You can workaround this though by putting *noti# in front of your message being sent. The *noti# will not appear in the received message.

The picture above shows me testing it.

The first received message:

Message for [phone number] with identification 081227195938 is pending to be delivered because Absent Subscriber (code 27).

was when I sent it with the receiving phone off.

The second:

Message for [phone number] with identification 081227075938 has been successfully delivered on 08-12-27 at 08:00:16.

was when the message was successfully received after I turned the phone on.

So if you must know if certain or all messages are sent this would work.

Custom Trinidad & Tobago Carrier Bundles for Digicel and Bmobile

thanks to Kofster

Just make sure you have Open SSH installed on your Jesus phone and you are using an sftp client like Cyberduck or Fugu, WinSCP etc.

Digicel_TT.bundle.zip
bmobile_TT.bundle.zip

  1. drop the carrier bundles in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles.
  2. Then, with MobileTerminal installed (via Cydia), type in su and hit enter.
  3. at the prompt, type in alpine and hit enter
  4. Type in cd /System/Library/”Carrier Bundles” and hit enter
  5. Type in ln -s Digicel_TT.bundle 374130 and hit enter
  6. Type in ln -s bmobile_TT.bundle 37412 and hit enter.
  7. When you’ve done that, navigate to your Settings > General > Reset > ResetNetwork Settings
  8. When the phone restarts, you’ll see a screen like this in the ‘Phone Preferences:

Bmobile Services Menu

Digicel Services Menu

Digicel Serices

For iPhone 3G users, because the iPhone 3G does not have a software unlock as yet, the baseband is unable to read the MCC and MTN numbers from the SIM cards. Therefore, even if you try to create symlinks to the MCC information, the iPhone 3G still will not generate those lovely screens like the silver and black (2G) iPhone owners get. However, all you have to do it replace the Unknown.bunble bundle in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles with the ones below.

Digicel-Unknown.bundle.zip
bmobile-Unknown.bundle.zip
