iPod3,1 Found In iPhone OS 3.0

References to a new model of the iPod touch have been found in OS 3.0 by iPodTouchFans member, kewlgreen.

I was just looking around in SSH on my iPod Touch 2G Firmware 3.0 and i found the BlueTool init script for the iPod touch 3,1:

Found in: “/etc/bluetool/”

BCM4325D0_004.001.007.0153.0155_N72_032609.hcd
BCM4329B1_002.002.023.0015.0016_Olympic_021809_37. 4MHz.hcd
iPhone1,1.boot.script
iPhone1,1.deepsleep.script
iPhone1,1.init.script
iPod2,1.boot.script
iPod2,1.deepsleep.script
iPod2,1.init.script
iPod3,1.boot.script
iPod3,1.deepsleep.script
iPod3,1.init.script
pcm-example.script

These references point to the use of the Broadcom BCM4329 chip…

The Broadcom BCM4329 integrates a complete IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n system (MAC/baseband/radio) with Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), and FM radio receiver and transmitter. By combining several proven wireless technologies onto a single silicon die, the BCM4329 enables mobile devices to support today’s toughest media applications — without impacting device size or battery life.

Wireless Syncing coming to future iPhones and iPod Touch via Bluetooth 3.0

The next version of the Bluetooth short-range wireless protocol officially launched this week, promising an eightfold speed increase that will help device makers like Apple offer true wireless syncing on their handheld products in about a year’s time.

Presenting at its annual All Hands Meeting in Tokyo this week, the Bluetooth SIG — the special interest group that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards and licensing — formally adopted Bluetooth Core Specification Version 3.0 High Speed (HS), or Bluetooth 3.0.

In addition to better power savings and unicast connectionless data, the new specification features an 802.11 Protocol Adaptation Layer (PAL) that will increase throughput of Bluetooth data transfers to approximately 24 Mbps, up from 3Mbps in the current 2.1 EDR version.

Put more simply, any two devices that feature both Bluetooth 3.0 and an 802.11 wireless chip will pair with each other over Bluetooth but then perform the bulk of their data transfers over the faster WiFi protocol using a specialized 802.11 connection. When the speed of a transfer becomes overkill, the connection will drop down to normal operation on a Bluetooth radio for optimal power management and performance.

Bluetooth 3.0

“Like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights, this latest version was ‘born to go fast,’” he said. “Utilizing the 802.11 radio was a natural choice as it provides efficiencies for both our members and consumers — members get more function out of the two radios they are already including in devices, and consumers with Bluetooth v3.0 HS products will get faster exchange of information without changing how they connect.”

iPhone 3.0 Tethered Over USB [Screenshots]

Steven Troughton-Smith a twenty-year-old independent iPhone developer has managed to enabled USB tethering on his iPhone using OS 3.0.

Tethering must have come after I uploaded my custom Carrier Settings file. Awesome!

Haha even the Apple employees are jealous on seeing me with tethering enabled. :-D

I have no idea how I did it. Sorry! I was hacking around with APNs in the Carrier.bundle itcc file

Tethering is enabled using a simple on and off switch. The screenshots below show that you can connect with USB or Bluetooth but Steven has yet to get Bluetooth working.

iPhone OS 3.0 To Include MMS & USB/BT Tethering?

So it looks like Apple’s planning on holding an event for iPhone 3.0 OS March 17th along with showing off an updated SDK. This would fit nicely with their brief history of having a preview software event followed by a hardware refresh in June/July. As far as what we’ve been told of iPhone 3.0, here’s what we’ve got:

  • MMS
  • Tethering via Bluetooth and USB

We’re working hard to get some more information and know that our list above isn’t exactly thorough, but hey, it’s something! Plus, there has to be copy and paste, right?

iBluetooth Released

iBluetoothAnd ‘finally got the application that many of you were waiting for ever! We are talking about iBluetooth the first software for iPhone that allows you to transfer files via bluetooth between different devices, signed MeDevil. Below is a complete and detailed review of the application granted exclusively to iSpazio, which followed directly the development and contributed to the improvement of the same:

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

Surely you remember our previous article where we showed some preview screenshots, but this final version differs in some details. First, as we can see the graphic has been slightly modified. We can notice a new icon, a new logo and other images on 4 small tab below.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

As now known, is the application fee, and just the start for the first time we will be in front of a screen of activation, from which we can get a demo valid for 6 days, which will allow us to use the software without limitation. To get a demo, just click on the button “Get License”, while the full version can be purchased by visiting www.medevil.net at a price of  3.99.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

At the bottom of iBluetooth have 4 buttons to access respectively to 4 screens. From “Images” can view the images received, or select those that we intend to send, directly from our library or by photographic film, from the “File System” we can see the entire contents of our iPhone and send any file is present. Through the small icon in the upper left can quickly access the download folder (set in preferences). Finally from “Activity” can track all transfers completed, active or failed. We can also stop the transfers and clear your history by clicking the trash, at the top.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

In the “Home”, we find a small icon shaped like a gear that allows us to access the settings. From this screen we can set the device name, its visibility, the request for association with a PIN, or specify the various routes and options for sending / saving files.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

When we receive a file we’ll see a popup of the need for rescue. Depending on the settings we will see the buttons that change according to pre-set path. By clicking on Save As. we can choose a route and also the name given to the file (to avoid overwriting possible if we already have a file with the same name).

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

The application also includes features of the background, that is to say that if we receive a file while the application is closed, however, will notify you wherever you are. E ‘can also track the number of activities through the badge on the springboard from. In the status bar instead, we can precisely control the state of iBluetooth through the colors of the symbol. To close the application completely (avoiding the background) click on the red X-shaped screen in the “home”.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

When iBluetooth search for nearby devices, identifies them in different ways according to their size, and consequently shows un’iconcina appropriate for each of them. We also find a small icon of signal, which shows the distance and then the power of connection with a particular device. The search function does not last more than 6-7 seconds, then, during the assignment of names to all the various devices found, an icon appears in the form of X and we can stop this process once the device is identified to us interested. At the end you can also make a new search.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

In iBluetooth are also some special functions that are not easily implemented in other software (native). E ‘is possible to automatically set a PIN that is automatically used when sending or receiving of files and you can also performmultiple tasks simultaneously transfer! It ‘also available mode server, which can be accessed through other software such as the “Search dipsositivo …” Mac OS X via bluetooth icon on the top bar of the system.

The application has been tested with Mac OS X Leopard, Windows XP, Windows Vista, LG, Samsung, Nokia and many other devices with positive results. If you have difficulties or problems with a particular device, contact the developer and indicated the model of the device with the problem. We specify that the average speed that you can achieve with similar devices is around 70 KB / s.

You can purchase a full license by visiting the official website www.medevil.netat a price of € 3.99 via PayPal or other methods specified by the developer. IBluetooth found exclusively in Cydia via the iSpazio repository.

Known flaws:

Currently the software has on rare occasions some small problems small. Here they are listed:

  • Often displayed a notice of failed execution of the launch stack. To resolve this problem, just enable and disable the bluetooth through the system preferences or SBSettings. In the case of continuity of the problem is advised to restart the device.
  • In the event of a crash \ forced closure of the software, the icons will remain on the Bluetooth StatsBar despite the application is closed. To solve this problem we must make a respring or restart the device.
  • It ‘possible that when sending or receiving images, then these are not displayed or stored properly. First try to click on refresh in the management of images, in case of continuity of the problem run a permissions fix SBSettings or via BossPrefs.

iBluetooth iBluetooth iBluetooth

Other bugs can be reported directly to MeDevil. We inform you that new updates are coming soon that will resolve the known bugs and integrate the locations into different languages. Another important thing to clarify is that iSpazio is only the hoster of this application. Development, credits, and all activities directly related to iBluetooth belong to MeDevil.

___

Q: When the app will be published?
A: It’s on-line, you’ll find it in cydia.

Q: Will i be able to send any file?
A: Yes, image support is built in, and the file viewer allow you to
send ANY file on the device.

Q: Will i be able to send music?
A: Music can already be sent by selecting an MP3/wav/aiff file from
the file system. However, i’ll include a music library to send ipod
syncronized songs directly in the near future.

And, the most important question:

Q: Why i have to pay 3.99 euro for this app?
A: Mainly, because apple didn’t want to include a full bluetooth stack
to be used by the developers. Implementing a complete and stable stack
(with all the bluetooth profiles) is nearly impossible for me in a
short time, so i’ve considered the idea of buying a complete (and
well-tested) stack. Now, there are only 3 stack that supports almost
all bluetooth profiles: BlueMagic, BCHS, ClarinoxBlue and, of course,
all of these are VERY EXPENSIVE.
So, i’ve decided to make you pay* this application, so i can buy one
of those stack for ALL the community and implement a background daemon
that will provide a full-featured stack for ANY developer out there.

Please, understand that the “free way” is not the right way. If you
want this application “for free” then take the “a cracked version”,
but you’re essentially removing yourself the possibility to have more
features, such as: A2DP (Audio stereo), Serial Port (needed for
bluetooth gps), DUN & LAP (internet navigation), implemented in a
small time and used by all of the developer out there: think at xgps
developers adding support for bluetooth gps devices or other free
developers adding bluetooth functionality to native apps like
contacts, photos… or any other infinite idea that developer can have!
And, yes, writing a complete stack is always possible, but how much do
you think it will take? Look, i’ve spent 3 month only for the obex
part… and that’s a small part: it’s just one (ONE) profile out of 27!

More iPhone Bluetooth Progress Made

An effort spearheaded by researchers at ETH Zurich has established a duplex bluetooth connection between an iPhone and a Mac, according to Arstechnica.

In the picture below (by Ralf Ackermann) you can see the duplex connection between an iPhone using its internal BT adapter and a mac mini with a BT module serially attached to it.

The iPhone sends out a message to the Mac saying “hello_can_you_hear_me?” and the Mac is able to respond to the iPhone with, “I_hear_you_loud_and_clear”.

Recently MeDevil was able to perform a bluetooth transfer between an iPhone and Mac; however, only the server profile was complete.

The version you see on video is not yet complete because the profiles implement only the “server” (the one that deals with the receipt). To complete the app you need to finish the part on the client profile obex push and complete the profile pbap that the exchange of contacts between the devices.
