Today iTunes 8.0.2 | 2.2 iPhone Firmware Tomorrow?

http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/_media/itunes-logo.png?cache=cache&w=256&h=256
Apple on Thursday evening released iTunes 8.0.2, the latest maintenance update for its digital media software that addresses a couple of minor issues and improves accessibility for users with impaired vision.

Specifically, the new version is said to address a quality issue when creating MP3s on some computers and fix a connectivity issue with the iTunes Store when using some Internet proxies with Mac OS X.

iTunes 8.0.2 also improves accessibility with VoiceOver, an Apple-developed technology that aids visually impaired users by reading aloud the contents of files while providing a rich set of keyboard commands for navigation and comprehensive audible descriptions of the present workspace.

The 60.3MB update, which is available through Apple’s iTunes site or via software update, arrives amid mounting evidence that Apple could be preparing to release the next software update for the iPhone — version 2.2 — as early as tomorrow.

Volume Boost For iPhone On 2.1 Firmware

iClarified released a Volume Boost patch for the iPhone 2.1 firmware. You can install the patch via the iClarified Cydia Repository.

The Volume Boost (2.1.0) patch modifies the plists which set the Maximum Volume Limits on the iPhone. Those that live in regions which have legal limitations on volume will notice the most improvement. Remember the iPhone speaker is still quite weak so don’t expect any miracles; however, you will see an improvement.

If you do not have the iClarified repo in your list of sources, you can find instructions on how to add it here.

Update Your First Gen iPhone from 2.x to 2.1 and remain Unlocked and Activated

That’s right! It seems that there is no modem/baseband update for first gen iPhone who update from 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 to 2.1. This means that first gen iPhone owners can update to to 2.1 and their unlocked modem/baseband remains. This is great news if you need the latest bug fixes or like me just like to keep up to date even if it means suffering the consequences of being an early adopter.

What’s the catch this time? Well as always you will loose all third party Apps NOT installed with the AppStore, i.e. anything installed with Installer or Cydia. You will also loose the jailbreak and ability to install third party apps via Cydia or Installer or have file access via AFP or SSH.

The Dev Team are working on a update to PWNAGE that will bring back full read/write capabilites as well as your favorite third party app installers Cydia and Installler. Until then if you dare, enjoy 2.1 the way Apple intended, but unlocked of course.
