iPhone Firmware 2.2 Podcast and AppStore Features Go Live

Mac Rumors and others are reporting that key new features in Apple iPhone Firmware 2.2 have been activated on Apple’s end and I am going out on a limb here and think that firmware 2.2 will be available for download as early as next week. (my personal opinion) Antway onto the iPhone 2.2 news:

German blog Schimanke.com publishes new screenshots from the iPhone 2.2 firmware that reveal that Apple has activated iTunes and App Store features that will make their debut in the next iPhone update. Prior to this past week, these new features had not been fully enabled.

The new iTunes Store screenshots confirm that Apple will be delivering over-the-air downloads for both video and audio podcasts. According to Schimanke, podcast downloads will be limited to episodes less than 10MB in size when using the cellular network.

The screenshots also show off the new App Store category view with icons embedded. Additional 2.2 features previously revealed include the addition of Google Street View and Japanese Emoji icons.

Meanwhile, there has been no evidence of background “push” notifications which were originally promised in September. Unconfirmed whispers suggest that the Apple has delayed the push notification service due to major issues with the initial implementation.

Apple seeded Beta 2 of the 2.2 iPhone firmware to developers in late October but has given no indication when we can expect a public release.

iPhone LockScreen Widget SmashUp - DigiClock, Calendar, Weather, Status Notifications

I have put together a smash up of some of the new Widgets that are now out there for WinterBoard. Download it here

To install these for now you’ll need to SSH into your iPhone/Touch and place them in the /var/stash/themes folder.. If you are not in Trinidad and Tobago, you’ll need to edit the “configureme.js” file in the Calendar Weather Lockscreen.theme (or DigiClock Calendar Weather Lockscreen.theme) folder. To get your local weather settings, please check out page four of this post and edit the “configureme.js” file accordingly.

There are two versions of the clock, there is the digital version and the analog version, to use the digital version you need to replace the “LockFont” (clock font) with a blank font in /system/Library/fonts/cache/. You can find the blank LockFont here. (don’t try to use both at the same time)

***** Be sure to backup your original LockFont file *****

There is one problem with using the digital clock, your call numbers and names will be hard to read as the images that make up the clock don’t disappear when you are making or receiving a call.. Other than that, simply copy them to your themes dir, fire up winterboard and turn them on. If you have any questions or problems setting this up please let me know either in the comments or the Forum.

LockScreen Widget

As you can probably tell, since there is nothing else really going on, today is Theme Day here on MyTriniPhone. And in this post I am focusing on Widgets for your Lockscreen. These widgets will allow you to get info/updates about missed SMS messages, weather, Ringer status, a cool Digital clock, missed emails, RSS feeds and IM messages. To do install these widgets you will need a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch with Cydia Installed, OpenSSh and the FTP client of your choice. Once you have Cydia installed you must download and install Status Notifier and WinterBoard.

All credit goes to the following people for creating the software for you iPhone that makes this possible.

- Zetetic Apparatchik - for the weather widget
- productred - for the one week forecast version of the weather widget
- nuclear potato - made a background image similar to the one in his slock theme.
- Jay Freeman for Cydia and WinterBoard

ClockScreen for your iPhone SpringBoard

ClockScreen is a new app available on Cydia for your iPhone or iPod Touch that allows you to view the date and time easily on your springboard.
ClockScreen comes in 3 flavors once your download it from Cydia, the clockscreen alone, the ClockScreen with the weather widget in the clock bar, andthe WbApp version which allows you to configure the weather widget once enabled in WbApp.

The theme takes a little setting up as you have to move the blank icons installed so that the ClockScreen is visible. Here is my install on my iPhone running the Bez Theme and Stacks. Check out MyTriniPhone on Flickr for more.
