Neverball is a new game from Lazrhog for the iPhone and iPod Touch that takes advantage of the amazing accelerometer found in thee devices. It has been ported to the iPhone by Lazrhog, who also brought us NOIZ2SA, rRootage and iZoo.
Gameplay is simple and fun. You tilt the iPhone/Touch to roll a ball through an obstacle course and collect coins before you run out of time. Neverball is part puzzle game, part action game, and entirely a test of skill and allot of fun. It also remarkably looks like an all too familiar face that will be showing up on the AppStore soon. (Super Monkey Ball by Sega for the iPhone)
Here is a video of actual game play posted by Lazrhog on YouTube.
“Some of the important points are that you can change the view of the game, while playing, by tapping in the Top Left for Chase View, Top Middle for Lazy View and Top Right for Manual View. You can also rotate the camera by tapping in the lower left or lower right of the iPhone screen. The Replay option will display a list of the replays you have saved. Just select the replay you would like to watch. When it is finished, you have the option to Keep or Delete the replay.
The Play option will bring you into the game where you can then choose Neverball Easy, Neverball Hard or Mehdi’s Levels. Each of these options will have a list of the available levels, Best Times and Most Coins. On the right, you can see a screenshot of each level by tapping on the level number. You can select a level by tapping on it again. Once you have won/lost, you will get a screen displaying the number of coins you received, your score, number of balls, Best Times and Most Coins. You also have the ability to go to the next level, retry that level and save a replay.
I will say that it takes a little bit of time and practice to get used to the controls on this game. I found that it can be difficult to change the views (Chase, Lazy, Manual) while in the game…it gets a little glitchy. Every 5th time you open the application, you will get a pop-up asking you to make a donation. You will need to select the Ok button in order to open the application again. If you select Not Today, it will close the app. Overall, Lazrhog has done an great job of porting this app! You can get Neverball through the ModMyiFone source.”
You can find this app out on Installer on your iPhone via the ModMyiFone source: http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml
Update: After installing, it may be my iPhone or an app (vWallpaper or maybe VideosTone) that are hindering my ability to easily select the menu options, but once you get it started the game play is awesome, this will be a HUGE success. It’s lacking sound, and thats one let down. More to come soon.
How would anyone get one without a money sucking contract? And you would then have to try to unlock/jailbreak/activate, to then possibly be defeated with a new update from Apple.
George Hotz is famous for being the first to unlock the original iPhone and for his critical role in unlocking most if not all other firmwares. Thanks to GeoHotz, we did away with the whole idea of StealthSims, UltraSims etc. He wrote allot of the tools that are used to create the unlocking tools, virginizers and baseband restore tools etc. Most of all we need to thank him for GunLock which is still used in most popular unlocking tools today (YOU, ME, PWNED, ZIPHONE, iLIBERTY, INDEPENDANCE and iPLUS all need to thank - and do thank - GeoHotz)
So what does young George Hotz have to say about the iPhone 3G and unlocking it’s baseband?
Is it really worth it? I mean, aside from the technical challenge, who will really benefit from it? I hear the phone is sold unlocked for +$80 AUD in Australia. Here, the best way to get a phone is to buy one from AT&T then cancel it, $200+$35+175=$410. You are better off buying an old iPhone off eBay. With locate me, how much will a GPS really help? And here in the states, T-Mobile 3G won’t work.
I’m curious as to what amplifier chip the phone uses though. The number one question I got from people about the old iPhone unlock is “Will it work with Verizon?” Now it could be possible.
I still don’t know how I’m getting my hands on a device. And if I’m not sure, how will everyone else who wants one get one? Apple, this is really a step backward for the consumer. I’m disappointed in you.”
With George moving over to develop for Google’s Andriod Mobile OS, he may be giving up n the iPhone. I hope that without his effort, the Dev Team can create a iPhone 3G unlock, I am sure a 2.0 unlock will come around a few days (if not the same day) after the OS X iPhone 2.0 is released for 1st gen iPhones.
I too am dissappointed with Apple and the fact that some of the key people are walking away who were involved with the unlocking of the iPhone and the community that has been formed by the “unlocked community”
Thomas Joos managed to get Flash Lite to work on his iPhone in an attempt to get his online Application “Rock Werchter Mobile Guide” (built in flash) viewable by iPhone users. As it is the Flash Lite runs as an App on the iPhone and not a plug-in for mobile Safari on the iPhone.
The “Rock Werchter Mobile Guide” is a mobile phone-based music festival handbook. It was built in Flash Lite and Joo didnt want to leave any iPhone or iPod Touch owners out of the loop.
“The port uses a framework that sits on top of eyeGT, a graphic renderer capable of handling vector graphics and bitmaps. eyeGT allows definition of buttons, animations, hierarchical containers, color and special effects, and the like. It works on the iPhone/iPod touch as well as several other mobile devices. Joos created a framework called b.Tween that allows easy conversion of applications to ActionScript, a scripting language used for Flash development. The result is native, Flash Lite-compliant code that is passed through eyeGT for rendering.”
So far no one knows how to get the FlashLite player on your iPhone, but here is a quick video showing it working on presumably Joo’s iPhone. This could open the possibilities for allot of web based Flash driven applications and of course, games, stay tuned for more info and any word on how to get the Flash Lite player on your iPhone.
With only four days left until the iPhone 3G, the OSX iPhone 2.0 Firmware is released and the grand opening of the AppStore for the iPhone and iPod Touch, the trusty Dev-Team are onto something - and it looks like something BIG.
There is allot of speculation about a post titled “Oh My” that featured a simple graphic that appeared on their “unofficial/official blog” with the words “Click here for iPhone™ - Our compilers are working overtime…”.
With no official/unofficial explanation of what this graphic is, or where it comes from, rumors, dreams and wishes are starting to get the rumor mill going again, and a quick glance at the comments quickly show you what people are thinking. But the dev’s have also dropped a few hints in the mix as well:
“Hah well let’s just say that this particular post was done (a) *with* team consent; and (b) by someone who *knew* what they were talking about :)”
“We were still in the process of verifying whether Apple could do anything to change the ramdisk encryption key, or otherwise denying us this access method in the future. Instead of waiting for that to complete, Zibri unilaterally released the key on his blog without checking it with anyone else. After he posted on the blog, the rest of us were publicly silent because we were still frantically trying to determine what to do with a loose cannon like him. You know how that story ended.
This being on the team’s blog and doesn’t leak anything, I think this is much better. ;)”
Well obviously by these two comments from those in the know clearly suggest that they are making some progress. Sounds to me like they have gotten a hold of the ramdisk of the OSX iPhone 2.0 Gold Master Firmware, and are compiling PMNED 2.0 to allow us plebs to create unlocked and activated custom 2.0 Firmwares. Maybe (hopefully) they have gotten a hold of a iPhone 3G? An unlock for the iPhone 3G on the same day it is sold would be mind blowing, and I am sure to probably make Steve age 10 years in a few hours.
Now I may be getting ahead of myself, but the Dev-Team doesn’t usually post anything until they are sure they will deliver something in the near future. Because they know all too well that allot of people are watching them closely and waiting for a solution to Jailbreak/Activate and Unlock OSX iPhone 2.0 and hopefully the iPhone 3G as well.
Where ever that graphic comes from, whether it be from some part of iTunes Activation of the iPhoen 3G and OSX iPhone 2.0, or if it’s part of the new interface for PWNED 2.0 to create custom unlocked iPhone firmwares, only the Dev-Team can elude to right now. in the mean while, try and distract yourself with your life until the 11th of July (that goes for me too).
He, like others, thought he had scored a pretty sweet deal, when in fact he really just purchased the new fake Chinese knock off iPhones. Unfortunately the only thing that slightly resembles the iPhones is the design and box, once you start to mess around with the phones interface you immediately see that the interface is clunky, slow and not very user friendly, the touch screen isn’t as responsive, the pixel quality from the screen is awful and the build quality is poo.
Buyers please beware, do a little research first, ask a friend with an iPhone to have a look at it, look at the videos posted online by Apple and iPhone owners so you can get an idea of what to look for an expect. There will be allot of used iPhones for sale soon and in the mix will be allot of fake clones, don’t be fooled.
One of the first give aways, the lock screen. Besides Apple not using (or including) the clown fish background wallpaper, the “slide to unlock” text should be in lower case, there should NOT be message up top instructing you to install a sim card, it will simply say, No Sim or No Service.
Another giveaway are the strange icons - most chinese knock-offs come with gmaes and this should also be a give away. Apple does NOT include any games on the iPhone, and certianly, if they did, it wouldn’t be some Chinese Majong game.
As you can see it looks allot thicker, but to the untrained eye, the box and contents could really fool you.
The moeny shot - this is NOT the usb cable used or supplied with the iPhone. You should receive a white standard Apple iPod/iPhone USB cable with Apples propietry dock connector.
Good luck and beware, if you have any questions, please post them or ask a fellow iPhone owner.
Rumors are going around that Apple has developed and manufactured an iPhone (3G presumably) with a full slide out QWERTY keyboard like those found on other smart phones. No actual photos have surfaced (yet), nor specs of how the actual phone looks or how the slide mechanism works (again - yet), but knowing Apple, it’s design and function is sleek, intuitive and dead sexy.
I have speculated about the idea and suspected Apple introducing a QWERTY style iPhone for numerous reasons. Among them more screen real estate will be made available for writing/viewing documents/websites/emails with the keyboard moved to a separate physical location and also to satisfy a part of the (business) market that wants a full QWERTY they can touch with their fat money making thumbs.
According to Guy Kewney, (NewsWireless.Net) the testers are among some of the Carriers that currently carry the iPhone (and soon iPhone 3G), and are only in the hands of the big boys who can be trusted to keep things very quiet - and that of course means no leaked photos.
“Rumours from inside Cupertino suggest that Jobs himself doesn’t have this sort of religious hangup about his own work. Reports from inside mobile operators show that whether or not he ever makes it work, he is already trying to make a “slide-out” keyboard for a corporate version of the iPhone.
If this version does appear on the market, it won’t be this year, and certainly won’t be aimed at the consumer market. Consumers love the sleek, elegant design of the iPhone, and quickly fall in love with the on-screen keyboard.
But Steve Jobs can do the sums. In America, iPhone has perhaps overtaken Blackberry in total sales - but these sales are in what they call “the executive corridor.”
Well I have done a quick design of what I think we could be looking at, of course Apple will engineer and layout the Keyboard better than I have. But this gives you a nice idea of what it may look like. I personally would love Apple to make this, not that I need it, but I think the variety will help establish Apple in the market and give consumers the choice of virtual the virtual Multi Touch keyboard vs Apples take on the traditional QWERTY.
