Apple announced it’s all new iPhone 3G S - apparently the “S” stands for speed. It seems to share the same shape and design as previous iPhone, but thats where the similarities end. It’s fast, really fast - launching apps 2x faster, in fact 2.9 times faster to view most websites when compared to previous iPhones. Support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. The battery life has also been bumped up to 9 hours vs 6hrs of talk time.
The new iPhone 3G S also now sports a 3MP auto focus lens and auto white balance and exposure, simply tap to focus and balance exposure. The new camera has better low light sensitivity, you can also now auto macro to objects as close as 10 cm. The biggest change is that the new iPhone and 3.0 firmware can capture video at 30 fps VGA with audio with auto focus, white balance, you can also trim your video’s and share to MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube.
The new iPhone 3G S now has built in voice control, hold down the Home button, say “Call Andy” for example and the device will ask for confirmation and make the call. Voice control can also be used to control iPod playback, simply say “play songs by “, “play song list”, “what’s playing now?” or “play more songs like this” to invoke the Genius.
There is also a new compass that will allow you to know your position and what direction you are facing at all times.
Pricing will start at $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB iPhone 3G(S), both models available in black and white, and the old iPhone 3G will be priced at $99 US and is effective immediately. The new iPhone 3G(S) will be available from June 17th in the US, Canada France, Germany, others - in July and August and will ship to 90 countries.
