Next Gen iPhone(s) coming to Trinidad and Tobago in June?

After playing around with the new firmware and taking some screen shots I ran into something very interesting for us TrinBagonians. Here is a screen shot of the Region Formats setting in the International Settings in firmware 3.0.

It clearly shows Trinidad and Tobago as an option. Even though the formatting they have seems to be incorrect (4085551212), it’s a great sign that either Digicel, bMobile or AmericaMovil (see update below) are going to be selling and servicing the iPhone Next Gen.

I have installed the 3.0 Beta on my iPhone 2G that was Unlocked via PWNAGE Tool on firmware 2.2.1. I downloaded the 3.0 Beta IPSW and used the shift/alt and click Update (NOT RESTORE) and updated my 2G to 3.0. The process was smooth even though it took very long. I was able to kepp the unlock and activation, but I lost Cydia and the Jailbreak.

Update

I am being told by a friend who is a good source of Telecom Info here in Trinidad and he is telling/remindaing me that AmericaMovil aka Claro is coming to Trinidad and currently carries the iPhone in Jamaica and other Caribbean and South American Countries. Claro bought the rights to Laqtel’s 3G license recently here in Trinidad and Tobago and is currently in negotiations with TSTT on placing antenna on TSTT towers. So we will see how soon we get the iPhone and from whom.

no the negotiations have been going on for a while and my source who a contractor that erects and services cellular towers says its just a matter of adding 3G boxes to existing towers and turning on 3G on others and 3G could be live throughout 70% of T&T.. so its just for them to settle on the rental rate and thats it.. AmericaMovil is from Mexico and has the money to do what it really wants…

and from past experience Apple only lists the countries and region formats where it plans to be in the very near future.

This means it will be a CDMA platform and not GSM ruling out use of all previous iPhones here.
Still very promising though.

word is thats its not even claro, it may be Vodafone (through a Carrier they own in Africa) and jsut cause they bought the license doesnt mean they are going with the same antennas on the towers, i got all this news from someone who is setting up the towers for them

It doesn't matter what kind of money they have. TSTT does whatever it wants regardless of what the law or the courts demand of it. Unless there is some sort of 3G competition this is bound to be the most expensive 3G in the English-speaking Caribbean when Claro wraps up "negotioations".

Every time a new iPhone comes out I wonder how long must we wait? iPhone 4 is coming to the US on June 24.
Yeah TSTT moves very shady… so I don't expect anything soon. (plus we don't have 3G networks yet) But it is a bit promising that Apple listed us in the OS. I won't start smiling though, until I see us listed here:
