iPhone App “MMS Photo Messaging” brings MMS feature to the iPhone; But Only for UK users

A missing feature from the iPhone is the ability to send MMS.

If you are in UK then you are in luck as an iPhone app has just been released on Apple’s UK App Store called “MMS Photo Messaging” which enables MMS on the iPhone.

Developers, Ross McKillop and Ed Lea seem to have addressed the lack of MMS feature with an iPhone app that allows users to send MMS features (with a catch); one of the features surprisingly still missing from the iPhone.

Here are some of the features of their iPhone app:

  • View your already-retrieved MMS messages when you’re offline
  • Send MMS messages without the need to use Mail.app
  • Uses your iPhone address book to display senders’ names.

The iPhone app works by prompting for an iPhone user’s O2 mobile number and the PIN that O2 sends when a subscriber receives an MMS message. The app then retrieves the MMS messages from O2 (which is probably the reason the app is restricted to users in UK).

The iPhone app can be downloaded for free from the UK App Store using this iTunes link. You can receive MMS for free however as folks at Neowin point out there is a catch. You need to pay £3.79 for 10 messages which works out to nearly 72¢ per message.

Though this is an interesting workaround for all those who want to use the MMS feature on their iPhone, the cost of sending the messages seems to be very expensive.

There are already cheaper ways to send MMS from your iPhone using some tricks or unofficial iPhone apps such as Swirly MMS that can be installed via Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone which also charge a fee but are not so expensive.
