New Mac OS X 10.5.6 update doesnt recognize iPhones in DFU Mode - Fix on the way

Apple released an Mac OS X update 10.5.6 that seems to disable your Mac from detecting your iPhone or iPod Touch in DFU mode. Unfortunately this is critical if you are using PWNAGE or QuickPWN on your Mac to unlock your iPhone or jailbreak your iPhone 3G and Touch. This is also bad news if the new iPhone 3G method will require DFU mode to load a custom unlocked ipsw via iTunes.

MuscleNerd from the Dev Team has stated that one work around is the following:

The simplest workaround I’ve heard of for the DFU issue is to copy one or two of the 10.5.5 frameworks files over the newer ones.

Seeing that I have already updated my Mac Mini and my new MacBook Aluminum probably already has OS X 10.5.6 I will be faced with this problem myself and will be sure to post a fix as soon as I find one. Stay tuned for more info.

Well, this certainly doesn’t affect any Intel Mac user who has a copy of Windows(Boot Camp) installed. Using the Windows version of iTunes on any 10.5.6 Mac (even late 2008 Macbooks) allows you to use DFU mode and pwn with the Windows QuickPwn the Dev Team has available.

Apple will never get around disabling DFU in Boot Camp because it cannot control USB drivers as much as they can on their operating system (Since Apple owns Mac OS X, they are free to change anything they want on any Mac), but on Windows, Microsoft supersedes Apple in this situation. Even if Apple would write an iTunes framework or update the Boot Camp USB drivers to disable DFU, it would still be impossible and the Dev Team could easily fire up a hack, or any modern user would just replace the driver with an older version (Driver Rollback Feature)

As for Mac users who cry envy in their spine when they see Windows running on a Mac, my guess is to wait for the Dev Team to cook something up… for now Windows will do perfect for me

There seems to be an easy sollution: Just connect your iPhone to your Mac with a [b]USB HUB[/b] before the DFU mode and proceed to Jailbreak. This way your Mac will recognize your iPhone in DFU mode!

I’m successfully restoring with a custom 2.2 ISPW on 10.5.6. Instead of putting the iPhone into DFU, I put it into regular recovery mode. When in this mode on the iPhone the iTunes logo and the USB cable is shown (Apple default), or “Steve” (Standard Pwnage) or your custom recovery logo. 1. Disconnect iPhone from your PC/Mac if not done already. Hold Power/Sleep until the red slider shows up, slide to shut the iPhone down. If this aint work hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down. Put it aside. Start iTunes on your PC/Mac and make sure to have the latest version. On the iPhone press Home button and keep holding it while connecting the iPhone to your PC/Mac. iTunes will detect an iPhone in recovery mode, the iPhone shown the recovery logo. Then open your custom firmware by pressing option and restore and you should have it unlocked.
