iPhone 2.2 Caller ID Fix and Extended Location Bundles for Trinidad & Tobago - Caller ID Works!!

For the people who run iPhone 2.2 on the iPhone and would like to have Caller ID working along with a customized carrier service experience.

The number one thing that a lot of people have been complaining about with every update, and recently with the 2.2 iPhone Firmware update is Caller Id - that one’s simple! Here we go:

Let’s try that again.

This is Caller ID Fix test file for India , Montenegro , Trinidad & Tobago and Cyprus. There are many more over on this thread on hackint0sh.org - Thanks to Frank8 for his help with this.

Download Trinidad & Tobago Caller ID Fix:

Navigate to System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework/Default.phoneformat
Backup the Default.phoneformat file on your iPhone, and replace it with the new file you downloaded. Reboot your iPhone, that’s it!

Custom Trinidad & Tobago Carrier Bundles for Digicel and Bmobile

Just make sure you have Open SSH installed on your Jesus phone and you are using an sftp client like Cyberduck or Fugu, WinSCP etc.

Digicel_TT.bundle.zip
bmobile_TT.bundle.zip

drop the carrier bundles in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles.
Then, with MobileTerminal installed (via Cydia), type in su and hit enter.
at the prompt, type in alpine and hit enter
Type in cd /System/Library/”Carrier Bundles” and hit enter
Type in ln -s Digicel_TT.bundle 374130 and hit enter
Type in ln -s bmobile_TT.bundle 37412 and hit enter.
When you’ve done that, navigate to your Settings > General > Reset > ResetNetwork Settings
When the phone restarts, you’ll see a screen like this in the ‘Phone Preferences:

For iPhone 3G users, because the iPhone 3G does not have a software unlock as yet, the baseband is unable to read the MCC and MTN numbers from the SIM cards. Therefore, even if you try to create symlinks to the MCC information, the iPhone 3G still will not generate those lovely screens like the silver and black (2G) iPhone owners get. However, all you have to do it replace the Unknown.bunble bundle in /System/Library/Carrier Bundles with the ones below.

Hey Guys. I tried the CallerID but it doesn’t work. I had previously installed CallerIDfix and FormatFix by Frank but I uninstalled them before doing the steps.

Any suggestions?

Hello everybody. Sorry for not chiming in earlier. Those that I did get on the iPhone in Gmail, I responded to personally and I was able to help them out. I took a little time to go see Quantum of Solace in National….
For those of you getting problems with the ‘no such file or directory,’ please make sure to key in this just as you see it…
cd /System/Library/”Carrier Bundles”
Do it just like that with the space between ‘cd’ and the forward slash. And also use the quotation marks for ‘carrier bundles.’ This has to be done because the folder has a name with a space in it.
For the caller ID: after you have SSHed into the phone and put the ‘PhoneNumberTemplates’ plist file in /System/Library/Private Frameworks/AppSupport try restarting your iphone and place a call or check your text messages. There are certain apps in the iPhone that are dependent on the phone being rebooted to refresh information that needs to be accessed. Try it and see if that works. For example, the MobileInstallation file.;-)

Hey Kofster, I think the issue here is that the caller ID is handled by files called Default.phoneformat (System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppSupport.framework/Default.phoneformat) and UIDefaultFormat.phoneformat
(System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/PhoneFormat/UIDefaultFormat.phoneformat)

the folks over on hackint0sh have figured it out..

maybe yours is working case you have all the +1(868) on all your contacts..

check this link, but I opened the files in a hex editor and it makes no sense to me right now, it’s late.

i rebooted and it still didnt work.

so for now i have 2 versions of the same number stored for ppl who call & txt me the most.

868 for calls
+1868 for sms

@ Mitch, I don’t think rebooting will solve it because I tried that many times. I also don’t think this is the fix as Aaron pointed out as Kofi has all the numbers sorted very well in his address book.

This would be fine to do but sometimes an incoming call shows up as (868) 123-4567 and then again sometimes its +1 (868) 123-4567 or just 123-4567. That way your address book may never capture all the combinations unless you manually add three numbers for every contacts number!

The link Aaron posted on Hackint0sh is the correct way. A Hex editor needs to be used. Someone should ask Frank8 on there to dish us up an edited file for Trini.

i was having the same problem and then downgraded back to 2.1 but just had to go back to 2.2 so i decided to try the appsupport fix and guess what it worked!
So basically you have to take the app support file from your 2.1 software and place it in the same directory in your 2.2 and then place the Phonenumbertemplate.plist in the same directory.
Those of you needing the appsupport file from 2.1 just email me and i’ll send it to you.

this is pressure.. upgraded this morning to 2.2… spent a couple hours hex editing the default.phoneformat files… still have not got it working… so i’m back down to 2.1 i cannot live without proper caller id..

Just use Cydia… It’s a one click install and it will respring and have you in order… Search for CallerID and install the iSpazio 2.2 Caller ID fix. It will make life alot easier for pros and noobs alike. Glad to see the Trini iPhone community so active… I really didn’t know… How many people pushing email to their phones?

Hey carbon, thanks for joining. the fix on Cydia came out a couple days after we posted this and were all trying to figure out a fix, just as luck would have it, but thanks for posting.

I occasionally turn on push to 15mins etc, when expecting mail, but it’s usually off/manual to save battery life.

On another note. I think I know why Kofi’s caller Id was working, for the same reason my caller iD on the 3G is working, because it just does.= LOL

my 2G needed the patch for 2.2, my 3G did not, and I set it up as a new iPhone in itunes after a sync and a option/alt + Restore to a custom 2.2 ipsw (no DFU, No Restore mode) = my caller id is working without a patch on my 3G… interesting.

For me it works halfway. In the missed calls the callers are identified correctly: i don't see their numbers but their names. When someone calls me, though, it just shows me the number formatted in an odd way.

Look like the area code is missing..
What can i do? which file describes the behaviour of the phone? I can manage to fix by myself… if i just know the name of the file. cheers

uhhh, the fix is that your custom firmware or quick/winpwn didnt work properly

Cydia is working on 2.2 and 2.2.1, try remaking a custom 2.2 firmware - make sure you are downloading it from the dev team website - http://blog.iphone-dev.com
