Apple working on iPhone Status Indicators via Dual Backlight Systems

By Aaron Besson at 20 November, 2008, 10:43 am

Apple recently submitted a Patent that hopes to solve the problem of not being able to see new notifications (email, sms, IM etc) while your iPhone is asleep. Currently the only way to see if you have missed anything is to turn on the screen (and in some cases slide to unlock). Apple hopes to solve this in it’s next generation of iPhones by using two backlight systems. One the regular power hungry version and the other a low power version that will be able to display event and notifications on your screen without touching the iPhone.

Take a look at the patent drawings and head over to AppleInsider for more info.
