T-Mobile G1 - First Mobile with Google Android Mobile OS - Pros and Cons

The first Android-based mobile was launched by Google and T-Mobile phone today - the T-Mobile G1. The new Android powered G1 phone is obviously targeting the iPhone as it is very competitively priced and comes with allot of similar features. The phone will be available on October 22nd, but users can pre-order online.

G1 Pros:

- Amazon Music Store preloaded on the G1.- DRM Free Music
- Built in QWERTY keyboard.
- Google Maps with street view and GPS compas
- Android Market Place - Purchase and Download Apps and Software
- YouTube Video browser
- Read Word, PDF, Excel files
- Copy, paste
- Instant Messaging
- Background processing (background apps)
- 480×320 screen
- 3.1MP camera, 5hrs talk time, GPS, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth
- Removable battery.

G1 Cons:

- No tethering option
- SIM-locked to T-Mobile
- No exchange compatibility, but 3rd parties could bring it.
- No desktop application to sync
- $179 with 2 year contract
- 1GB MicroSD card preinstalled
- No built in video player, but you can download one from the Market
- Only comes with 1GB memory. Upgradable to 8GB.
