Over the weekend the AppleInsider reported that Apple retail employees found a new option in their point of sale (EasyPay) system for the iPhone 3G called “Home”. Previously, the only options presented were:
1. Upgrade/Swap existing Phone 2. New to AT&T starting a single line 3. New to AT&T starting a family line 4. Add a line to existing account
Upon further investigation, AppleInsider has confirmed that this new “Home” option simply refers to users that have used AT&T’s home pre-qualification web site, and this option was added to help speed up the lengthy in store activation process.
There were also rumors that Apple was getting ready to introduce an unlocked version of the iPhone 3G and also discontinue the 8GB version and include a 32GB model to the iPhone line up. Even though Apple has mentioned in the past that it may sell a unlocked 3G iPhone in the US like it does in other countries, these rumors suggesting that the unlocked ($1000 USD) iPhone 3G seem to be false unfortunately. - Bleh.
Thanks to SARC for posting the original rumor in the forum.
Jay Freeman (aka Saurik) has created a remote desktop server for iPhone and iPod Touch users who wish to access their device from their Mac/PC. Veency (available on Cydia) allows you to control and view the Springboard and access the Apps through the computer, use the mouse to drag the screen, open Apps even make calls (you’ll need to use the actual phone to hear and talk though), open sms, notes or email and start typing with your Mac/PC keyboard and the text will start appearing on the iPhone and on your PC/Mac screen.
There is no password or toggle for the server; however, these feature are planned in the future. Jay is continuing to amaze me with the apps that he is coming out with for the iPhone. I am working on a video so check back soon fi you wish to see this in action before using it. I used Chicken of the VNC for Mac, there are allot of other clients out there for Mac and PC. Enjoy and Happy Friday!
“CallerID Fix Collection” by Carlo Franchino (Frank8) is the ultimate solution for who live in a country that is not present in Settings, Regional Format, and have trouble with Caller ID or SMS when numbers are stored in Address Book with or without international prefix. Here is a list of supported countries (200+). You can install CallerID Fix Collection from the Localization category of the Installer 4 through the iSpazio Repository: http://repo.neolinus.org/ispazio.
Apple is either looking at apps like Intelliscreen that display info about SMS, Emails and Call/Voice Messages on your lockscreen because they have filed a patent for a notification panel on the lockscreen for the iPhone (and iPod Touch) according to AppleInsider.
“Improved Notification of Missed Communications
A second filing, made a few months earlier, discusses improvements to the iPhone’s notification dialog that informs users of missed calls, text messages, and voicemails when they’re away from their phone or the phone is locked.
Today’s implementation is completely text-based, somewhat poorly formatted, and disappears once the user unlocks the handset — leaving the user to rely on memory and the individual red icon notification badges in order to retrieve and reply to those transmissions.
The iPhone team’s filing instead proposes a more properly formatted notification panel — in one of approximately a half dozen potential layouts — that would not only remain visible once the phone is unlocked, but actually provide direct links or buttons to the missed
communications.
“In response to detecting an interaction by a user with the device, the plurality of icons display notification information for the plurality of communication modalities,” the filing explains. “In response to detecting an unlock interaction by the user with the device, the device is unlocked, and a communication in the plurality of communications is presented that was received while the device was in the locked state, or information about the communication is presented.”
Such an implementation could become increasingly useful once Apple releases support for global push notifications that will allow third party applications to receive transmissions in the background or when the phone is in a locked state. “
