Let’s Rock - New iTunes 8 iPod Nano, Classic and Touch, New iPhone 2.1 firmware.
The Big Apple event took off today at promptly 10:00 AM Pacific with a Apple CEO Steve Jobs taking the wheel. He started off by saying -
“The topic this morning is music. Let’s start with iTunes. It’s the ubiquitous store and music player. It now offers 8.5 million songs. It’s amazing. Over 125,000 podcasts, over 30,000 TV shows, 2600 movies… and we now offer over 3,000 apps for iPhone and touch.”
iTunes 8 has been updated and NBC content is now available, along with some new features. HD TV shows, new browsing views and a Genius Bar. The new Genius Bar creates playlists tailored to your tastes and library. You can now automatically create playlists with just one click.
Next on the agenda was iPods. Apple is has two model iPod Classic, thin and thick, they are discontinuing the thick one. The iPod Classic is now 120GB at $249 USD.
Next is the new iPod Nano 16GB, $149 for 8GB, $199 for 16GB., it’s the thinnest iPod Nano yet and looks exactly like the leaked shots we saw. The screen is the same size as the current Nano, but rotated 90*. The New iPod Nano also has the accelerometer from the iPhone and iPod Touch in there now too so you can shake it to shuffle. Also expect some great new games. There is also a new headphones (for $79 or a iPhone Headphone will do ;)) with integrated mic that will allow voice recording - SWEET!.
The iPod Nano will also be available in seven nine new nano-chromatic colors, Black, Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink and Silver. Stats are 24 hours battery life for music, 4 hours for video. I sense some AppStore Action for the Nano and of course the Genius bar is there for playlist.
Steve Jobs also added:
“We want to be environmentally sensitive. We’re constantly worrying about it. But the biggest thing is toxins — we have an internal checklist, but the new iPods look great from this point of view. They’re highly recyclable… we’re really trying our best. We think these new nanos are the cleanest we’ve ever built.”
Next up was the iPod Touch. Same display, but even thinner with contoured stainless steel design. The new
Touch has a integrated volume controls into the side, built-in speaker (yay) and Nike+ and of course he New Genius bar and AppStore. Check out the guided tour of the new iPod Touch for more info
Speaking of AppStore, Phil Schiller also presented today and started off by demoing Spore Origins (one of my new favorite games for iPhone), Real Soccer 2009 and Need For Speed: Undercover. The new iPod Touch is available in three models, 8GB $229, 16GB for $299, and a 32GB for $399.
Steve Jobs also announced that iPhone Firmware 2.1 will be available for all iPhone and iPhone 3G owners from Friday 12 September. It will have some bug fixes, a signal boost and better battery. - Besides some Jack Johnson, that was about it. What did you expect? Me, I expected allot more..
