By Aaron Besson at 10 September, 2008, 1:39 pm

Apple’s iPod Touch 2.1 was released yesterday but many users had some difficulty in installing the update. The servers may have been overloaded at the time, but the iPod Touch 2.1 firmware is available for free via iTunes for existing 2.0 customers. iPod Touch owners still running 1.0 software can purchase the software for $9.95.

The New features outlined by Apple for iPod Touch Firmware 2.1 are:

- Genius Playlist
- Reduced Backups
- Improved Native App Reliability (Email/Contacts/SMS/Maps etc)
- Faster Installs from the AppStore
- Fixed AppStore Apps/Games Crashing

Apple also announced the 2.1 firmware will be released for the iPhone this Friday. No word on if the iPhone firmware 2.1 will have any additional features. More on that later.
