Today I managed to get my grubby hands on a black glossy 16GB iPhone 3G, and the wait was worth it. Even though this one is not mine, I enjoyed checking out the new body. My friend Larry over at Laptop City (Trinidad & Tobago) asked me to pick up one of the 3G’s he had there to jailbreak for him and test any new Sim solutions I manage to get my hands on. Seeing that my 16GB White iPhone 3G has not reached into my hands yet, I was glad to pick this one up and check it out.
As everyone said, it feels great in your hands. The new tapered shape definitely is more ergonomic, and feels more natural to hold compared to the previous generation iPhone. The flush headphones jack graciously welcomed and the chrome trim is a really nice touch. The glossy finish.. hmmm. I am not too sure about this. The black will definitely drive me insane, smudges and finger prints would have me cleaning it every 5 minutes. I had to put it back into Larry’s Incase protective case before i cleaned it to death. The plastic back also feels/sounds hollow, don’t know how to explain it, but I always associate that sound with something cheap.
I thought the iPhone 3G would wobble on a table like an egg, but it sits pretty flat. The speakers are defnitely much louder, as you slide to unlock the first time you will smerk with delight as to how loud the sound is. I have not gottent o test sund quality with calls yet but I like what I hear so far.
Overall I like what I see, even though the plastic glossy back sounds/feels cheaper, the overall design is better, sleeker and more polished. When the iPhone 3G is clean it looks amazing, use it for a few minutes and it looks like it was in a box of KFC. If I had to choose one between the two I would pick the 3G, still waiting on my white to decide on which color I prefer. Here is a short video, the content isn’t anything new or out of this world, so I atleast added some good music.
