The local market for iPhones has dwindled down to a trickle of used and refurbished 8GB’s and the occasional 16GB still wrapped in plastic. Finding an iPhone 3G was like scoring the horn from a Unicorn. I had contacted a few resellers, but they either never got them, were too busy to meet up for the sale (lol) or were selling the dual sim knock off phones (grr).

I had bugged my brother in Switzerland to see if he could score me an official authorized unlocking iPhone 3G from Swisscom but they have been sold out for weeks so the waiting list is long, plus he is a really busy lad, so i wasn’t going to bother him too much. But if he does get the opportunity to grab me one, I’ll gladly take it.

After allot of set up’s and give up’s, a fellow Trinidadian and loyal blog reader by the name of David offered to help me get an iPhone 3G. He was planning on getting one as well and we both hatched a plan to get one of these highly coveted new Apple devices.

He contacted his sister in the US and she was able to grab us a couple 16GB - Score. They were FedEx’d to us not soon enough but definitely right on time. I must truly thank David for helping me get my sleek new 16GB White iPhone 3G.

The box is noticeable smaller than the previous iPhone Box, this is because of the lack of the Dock. In fact the box was so light, I had to check it to make sure the iPhone was in there.

The box is very similar to the Refurbished iPhone Boxes that I have seen in the past.

Ahh - Nice shiny new toy!

As you can tell this was taken with my first gen iPhone. Unfortunately the iPhone 3G has the same bloody camera which is ok for taking shots of stuff about a foot or more away, but for anything close up, forget it. But still, gotta love it.

The iPhone 3G looks and feels smaller for some reason, even though it is a few millimeters thicker.

Above is my old faithful week 38 first gen iPhone. It’s been like the pickup truck of phones for me. It has done everything from test and try new unlocking methods, to messing with apps that have caused me to restore more than a few dozen times. I have managed to keep it in pretty good shape and only dropped it once from my lap, she still looks really good and works great.

Thanks again David. This iPhone 3G is locked, it was purchased with a 2 year contract that will be terminated and all related fees will be paid accordingly. Next is Jailbreaking this new iPhone 3G with PWNAGE Tool. I may wait for the new PWNAGE for 2.0.1 firmware (or maybe not), and while waiting on a real software unlock for the iPhone 3G form the Dev Team, I’m going to test out some __Sim spoofing solutions.

I am very anxious to use this as my primary everyday phone so look out fr updates soon as to any progress with unlocking the iPhone 3G
