I had always been an admirer of the Blackberry Enterprise service.. I simply loved the fact that email was delivered directly to the phone as it arrived on the server , without the user have to “check” his/her email or have the phone manually check for new email at a specified interval. Oh how i wished i could have got those features on my iPhone….
So when the March 6th announcement was made and it was stated that the iPhone would have enterprise support with 2.0 firmware upgrade I was elated. I couldn’t wait to see what it would be like.. So I had two options. Configure my iPhone with a Microsoft Exchange Server or use Apple’s Mobile Me… I wanted to have complete control so I decided to setup my own Exchange Server in my office. It was a task.. I must admit.. but the end result made it all worth the while.. I now have push email , push contacts and push calendar on my iPhone.
Simply put this means that emails come to my phone immediately after being sent, my contacts are synced auto-magically over the air.. via edge or wifi , and the same goes for my events in my calendar. So now I have no need to sync my phone at any given time period. It’s always up-to-date. And I can access my info (email , contacts , calendar ) anywhere once i have internet connectivity. You can choose which one of these features you would like to use. So you can use it just for Mail or Contacts or Calendar . It really was impressive seeing my 535 contacts appear on my iPhone in a minute or two wirelessly.. I love it..
I tested out Mobile Me as well alongside my Exchange Account on the iPhone.. but it couldn’t compare , emails and contacts weren’t always “pushed” and there was a significant time delay , Mobile Me or as i saw on another blog Mobile Meh’.. just isnt ready as yet , and Steve Jobs admitted that they failed and they are gonna have it working soon.. but until then.. lol..
This also means every time a new blog entry is posted on MyTriniPhone , my phone vibrates instantly… So I always know when to check the site.. ![]()
I have attached some screenshots of my email as viewed on my PC through Microsoft Outlook , Through Outlook Web Access in a web browser and on my iPhone.
iPhone in the Enterprise is beautiful.
