DataCase File Server and Viewer for the iPhone

I came across a great new app called DataCase from Veiosoft, it costs $6.99 and is available now from the iTunes App Store. DataCase turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless storage device/drive that can be accessed by other devices on a local wireless network. This app allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch almost like a flash drive that you can keep your data on you or share it with others.
You don’t need to set up any additional software on your computer or network for this application to work its magic. Once installed Mac users will see the iPhone/Touch appear in the accessible server list in Finder via Bonjour. Windows users will have to put the URL of the DataCase UI in Explorer to access the drive. DataCase also supports FTP file transfers/access over Wifi.
Security is somewhat controlled by allowing you to create up to 16 volumes that can have controlled access, you can assign read write access to some volumes and other levels of access to others. Audio and Video playback is done via the built in Apps, so only stuff that will play in iTunes pretty much. You can view documents (Word, Work, PDF, Excel and more) stored in DataCase directly on the iPhone. This sounds like a really nice version of the old DropCopy and a nice way to share files from user to user(s) on a network.

Mac Os X Tutorial
Mac OSX:
Connect the iPhone to a wireless network you can access from your Mac and launch DataCase. You should see your iPhone appear in the list of shared computers in the finder toolbar (for 10.4 and 10.3 users you will need to browse the list of network servers to find your iPhone). Once connected, click on the volume you wish to browse, accept the connection, and use as a normal hard drive.
Windows Tutorial
Windows:
From windows you will need to go to windows explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer, if in doubt double click on “My Computer” and it should take you to windows explorer), in the path field at the top of the window were it has the path to the displayed folder you should put the URL on the DataCase UI that starts with “ftp://” and press enter. This should let you browse your files and upload/download as expected.
