X-Sim spoofs iPhone 3G - Confirmed
By Aaron Besson at 16 July, 2008, 1:57 pm

Ta Mobile, one of the Vietnamese hackers responsible for the 1.1.2 hardware unlock, has confirmed that the X-Sim can be used to unlock spoof the iPhone 3G into thinking it’s being used with a legit sim card (thanks for reminding me Z00L).
This comes merely days after a Brazilian group claimed that they had successfully unlocked made calls on the iPhone 3G with a TurboSim by tricking it with some cleaver programming.
Although the X-Sim (nor TurboSim) can activate the iPhone, once you get past activation, either through iTunes or PWNED, you can then use the sim card of your choice once you use it with one of the X-Sims or TurboSims. They are expensive and a crude way of getting past the baseband being locked to a specific carrier.
This is good news for anyone that needs to use their iPhone 3G with another sim card than the one supplied with the iPhone 3G (and has money to spend). Until a better software solution (that is a much better unlock) comes along to truly unlock the iPhone 3G, this may be the only way for now.

Come on Aaron..you know better than that.
Don’t use the word unlock. It bypasses, spoofs..something like that, but for god’s sake it isn’t an unlock.
And if it fails as much as before with the 1stGen iphone, when you do a cell tower hand-off. thank you, but NO thank you.
Cumps
