Well it’s about time! One of the first apps that I ever requested has come out. VideosTone simply allows you to use a video file as a ringtone on your iPhone. Apple never added this as a feature of iPhone OS X - yet.
VideosTone comes from iFoneTec.com, a Hong Kong based software development company that specializes in iPhone Software Development.
Thanks to ModMyiFone.com the new installer source is http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml and Cydia source: http://apptapp.saurik.com
“The first in the ability to activate video ringtones on in-coming call for the Apple iPhone from iFoneTec.com. You will be able to assign designated video ringtones on your Contact list. More customize Video Ringtones are under development and will soon be made available at iFoneTec.com. VideosTone is the first in the World to have Video Ringtone playback capability on the Apple iPhone. Support iPhone Firmware 1.1.x (2.0 is under development). Test in 1.1.2 and 1.1.4.”
To install this great little app, add http://app.ifonetec.com to your installer sources. To add your own videos to the app you simply upload the videos via OpenSSH and the FTP ap of your choice to the following directory on your iPhone: /var/mobile/Media/VideoTone/Video/
Here is a great Tip - Use MxTube to download your favorite music video on your iPhone, then use MobileFinder to copy and paste the .mp4 file to the VideosTone video folder, works great for me
SwirlySpace.com has announced the first official release of their Multimedia Messenger Client for the iPhone called SwirlyMMS v1.0
It is the first and only MMS app for the iPhone and I installed it and got it working in a couple minutes. This update comes with allot of great additions and improvements compared to past versions.
SwirlyMMS has been nice enough to give users a 14day trial, so you have enough time to see if Apple delivers or if you will fork out the eight bucks for this app. Whether or not SwirlyMMS will be available from the AppStore is still yet to be seen, but I highly doubt seeing the way Apple wants to control what apps can and can’t do, and plans from past patents that hint that even if it’s not included in this 2.0 firmware, it’s on their minds and in development.
“After having traveled on a very long journey and having put countless of hours into our baby project, we are now extremely happy and proud to finally have reached our goal of releasing a full-featured MMS application to the iPhone community!
SwirlyMMS v1.0 release brings you the following new features:
An easy-to-use user-interface, inspired by the mail application, which allows you to navigate through your received and sent multimedia messages.
Ability to send and receive: images, text, audio, video. In fact, you can send and receive any file you like!
You will be able to send and receive messages containing multiple multimedia parts. For example you can send an image together with a long text in the same message.
A built-in media viewer is provided so that you can easily view your messages from within SwirlyMMS.
You can easily reply to the sender, or forward the message.
You will be able to select multiple recipients.
You can save an multimedia message part to a file of your choice.
You can save an image to your camera roll (/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE) and view it with the Photo application.
To send a photo, you will be able to select it, not only from your camera roll but also from your synched photo library or use the built-in file browser to pick any file.
Also, you will be able to take a photo with the camera from within SwirlyMMS and send it right away.
When composing a multimedia message with several parts, you can easily rearrange and remove any part.
To help you configure the application with the MMS settings, we have developed a package which handles settings delivered over-the-air!
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who have downloaded and used our previous version v0.3.8 (you are about 500.000(!)) and all of our donators and swirlyspace.com forum users! And, of course, an extra big thank you goes to our brave beta testers who have given us great and valuable feedback and helped us releasing this major upgrade of our application!
As you may already know, this v1.0 release is not free. But it is cheap, or a bargain as some people say It costs only $8 USD, and you will be able to use a full-featured demo version in 14 days before you decide to buy. If you like it, you buy it easily with your VISA, American Express or MasterCard via a secure Paypal link.
Just add http://swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml to your source in the Installer application and you are off to swirl away MMSs. In a day or two from now, you will find this release in one of the community sources, probably in STE’s repository.
As we have stated before, all of you who have donated and supported our early development efforts will have this release for “free”. Just install v1.0, click the Buy button, read and accept the license agreements, click Buy, which starts the Safari Web browser. Click the ‘+’-sign and choose “Mail Link to this Page”, which starts the email application. Together with the link, add your Paypal confirmation number to this email and then send it to: tommy@swirlyspace.com. We will take care of the rest So, from now on, you must buy the application. It is not enough to donate $1…
We will continue our efforts in developing this application even further and will bring new exciting features in the forthcoming versions. Also, we will of course support the application via our forum over at http://swirlyspace.com/forum
Thanks again to all of you!”
Regards,
The Happy and Proud SwirlySpace Team

With the due date (July 11th) coming closer and closer to Apple dropping the 3G iPhone and Apple iPhone OS 2.0, Apple has released iPhone SDK Beta 8 (9m2199) to get developers ready for the iPhone App Store. Apple has sent out invitations to developers to submit their work (games, apps, web apps etc) so that their apps can be available on launch day.
With the release of a new SDK and Beta iPhone OS 2.0 - iPhone beta certificates issued before June 9 have now expired. Applications/Games must use the new certificate issued after June 9 in order to be authorized by the AppStore and able to run on the iPhone
The update includes iPhone firmware 2.0 version 5a345. Along with the update is a approved-developer-only version of iTunes, 7.7, which can be used to “install iPhone OS Beta 8 on your Apple devices.” just as you would upgrade/restore any prior firmware in iTunes. iTunes 7.7 isn’t included with the 1.25GB SDK update, but is available to approved developers as a separate download.
iTunes 7.7 will obviously be required for the new iPhone 3G and iPhone 2.0 firmware that will enable the AppStore, but it seems that Apple is adding a few features 3rd Party Developers have been dabbling in for some time - iTunes Remote control with your iPhone/Touch
According to an anonymous TUAW tipster:
iTunes 7.7 will allow either an iPhone or iPod touch to download a free application that can remote control iTunes from anywhere in the vicinity of your Mac (most likely over your home network). Reportedly, this free application will be available in the App Store upon the 2.0 firmware release.
Now this may just be a rumor, but as we hear more updates about iTunes 7.7, how it works with 1.1.4 (or lower) firmware (unlocked) and any news about the AppStore or iPhone OS 2.0, I will post it.
I knew it would happen sooner or later, some smart arse is saying he can get the 3G iPhone before anyone and oh, of course it will be unlocked
I get about 10-15 calls a day from people asking if the new 3G iPhone can be unlocked and when is it coming out, if it’s worth it, if I will be selling them (NO) and what are my thoughts on it? Depending on what time of the day you call and what I have going on will decide how many of these questions I will have time to answer.
Over the past couple days I have been getting some calls about an email going around from a guy named Dexter here in Trinidad, that says he is selling the 3G iPhones, get this - unlocked! If that wasn’t a good enough laugh for you, he says he will have it on June 28th - ROFLMAO.
Now this comes form a guy who runs a website called Pellau.com that currently sells the knock off iPhones and other cheap dual sim phones, so why anyone would beleive him, I have no idea. But for kicks and giggles, I challenged him to produce one of these so called Unlocked 3G iPhones. I am not holding my breath.
“Dexter Tittilhas invited you to the event ‘They are here!!! 3G Apple iPhones!!!’ on Pellau Social Networks! Check out “They are here!!! 3G Apple iPhones!!!” on Pellau Social Networks!
Thanks,
- Dexter Tittil
Time: June 28, 2008 at 6am
Location: Trinidad
Organized By: Dexter Tittil
Event Description:
Yes you read correctly! They have been leaked and unlocked! Get your own before anyone else in the world! For more info contact Dexter at 716-2645 or email: dextertittil@gmail.com”
You can say that this guy is just trying to drum up hits for his website and maybe get some people to actually register and become part of his/the online community over on his website, BUT, he is actually taking orders and asking people to put down $1000 TT deposit, now that just sucks, so I think you should all be warned.
This is probably, in fact I would say there is a 99.999999999% chance that this is a scam - be careful, but call or email Dexter if you wish and bug him with some questions and see if he cracks under pressure. Let us know what he says.
I came across this great post by XianLi - Bending Administrator over on Hackint0sh.org, for all of you guys and gals with applications that crash, act buggy, quit to the Springboard, freeze and don’t save files. He has come up with a simple solution to debug your iPhone and the apps and a way for you to see what’s going on.
While this tutorial will not fix these issues, it will let you know where to start looking for a solution, where normally you may resort to a restore. Before you get started and go installing all sorts of crap, it’s always wise to backup your iPhone using iTunes before you install any new app so you have a working backup in case you need to restore, obviously your iPhone will need to be jailbreaked and activated to do this or install 3rd party apps, this will also work on the iPod Touch.
Here we go:
First, turn off the Auto-Lock feature in Settings > General > Auto-Lock.
Second, you must Install OpenSSH in your Phone (if not already installed by a Jailbreak application such as iPlus, iLiberty or PWNED). - OpenSSH requires BSD Subsystem.
Open a SSH session from your computer to your phone.
You can use:
- Putty > ssh client for Windows available at putty.org
- Terminal > for OS X, already installed in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
Connect to your phone:
Quote:
ssh -l root x.x.x.x
x.x.x.x has to be changed to your iPhone IP Address. (e.g 192.168.0.123)
To know your iPhone IP, on your iPhone go to Settings > Wifi > click the blue arrow, it will display the network your phone is connected to, and your IP address.
If you see a message like this on your computer - just type yes and press ENTER
Quote:
The authenticity of host ‘x.x.x.x (x.x.x.x)’ can’t be established.
RSA key fingerprint is xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
Then you’ll be asked to enter a password. Simply type alpine and press ENTER
Now you are connected in SSH.
Since 1.1.3, all the Apps are executed as mobile user from Springboard and because we are logged as root in the SSH session, we need to switch to mobile user.
Type this command and press ENTER.
Quote:
su mobile
You’ll notice in the SSH session window, the # will change to $.
# = root
$ = mobile
To exit the mobile level simply type exit and press ENTER. It will go back to the root level. Now if you want to execute any app you must know its exact name (Case Sensitive). You can use the “TAB” key to auto-complete the path/name.
For example, if you type:
Quote:
cd /A
and press TAB. It will complete to
Quote:
cd /Applications.
Type the following command:
Quote:
cd /Applications/X
X must be changed to the first letter of your app name.
All the applications name starts with a Capital Letter.
When you press tab, if you have several apps starting with the same letter, you’ll be proposed several choices. Just complete the entry by the app name you want to execute and press ENTER. (don’t forget the .app/ at the end of the name) e.g: MobileFinder.app/
Now that you are in the application’s package, you must execute its binary.
type this command and press ENTER:
Quote:
./Xxxxxxx
Xxxxxxx must be changed to the same name of your application package name except you don’t need to add .app/ at the end. e.g: MobileFinder
Your app is now started and you should see several lines right after the last command you typed. You can copy/paste them this thread or any forum to let people help you. Use CTRL + C keys to quit the application you started.
Most of the time the report messages are obvious enough to understand the source of the problem. If you check everytime you install/upgrade a 3rd party application, your phone should never crash/freeze/hang or behave abnormally once you solva any problem then and there. Just don’t keep apps that will report problems that can’t be solved.
XianLi(Bending Administrator) over on Hackint0sh has created two useful little apps for all the iPhone owners with broken sleep/power buttons. They are called Lock.app and Shutdown.app. You can now put your phone in sleep mode or turn it off without using the sleep/power button. I wish this app was around a while ago when I had a friend that dropped his iPhone and his power button stopped working. We ended up parting out his iPhone and he has since replaced it, but this would have sorted him out, at least for a little while.
XianLi would like to thanks Dave Henriksen for the shutdown iPhone’s binary used in this app. XianLi is also working on a Software solution for the broken Silent Ringer Switch. Both Lock.app and Shutdown.app are available on iClarified repository > http://installer.iclarified.com.
