Rumor - 3G iPhone to be released in May - Newton or Touch Tablet in June at WWDC?

So the rumor mill is churning up some good ones again. As Apple Online Stores and retail outlets have sold out of iPhones and are currently NOT taking orders, people are starting to wonder whats Apple got planned.

With various blogs and mac sites reporting and speculating that there is a slim possibility that Apple may introduce the 3G iPhone early so that the highlight of the WWDC show in June will/may be its newest/oldest mobile device, Newton.

I strongly believed and have been telling people that Apple is going to reintroduce the Newton (or some kind of Multi Touch PDA) and include multi touch screen, huge capacity, lightning fast processors, wifi, bluetooth and possible 3G and EDGE capabilities. It will be slightly bigger than the iPhone and be more targeted at the Mobile Exec Business Class. (think Apple Advantage)

But the real question is, Why would Apple release the 3G iPhone early, and of course where? We all know this will be a highly anticipated announcement and I would imagine Apple would want to capitalize on it and take the opportunity to spurt out sales figures and more importantly showcase its new hardware and software features. The WWDC jsut seems to me like the place to do that, as well as launch the Newton :)
What I can see happening is maybe the new 2.0 iPhone Firmware being released to iPhone users in May. Again I think Apple will want to capitalize on the press coverage and exposure this will generate at WWDC, so for me, all of these are rumors so far. Your comments?
