MyTriniPhone 2nd Gen iPhone Design Concept

By Aaron Besson at 29 April, 2008, 5:29 pm

Since the rumors started that there would be a new Radical Design for the iPhone coming out, my first thought were - Would Apple change the revolutionary design and what sort of changes (if any) would we see? This is in no way any sort of official design or concept, this is merely what I would like to see based on the rumors going around about the design changes, now that’s been said onto my wish list

Update: More iPhone 2nd Gen Designs

  1. New Dimensions
    4″ x 2.75″ x 0.55″
Making the iPhone a bit smaller and lighter would make it a little more user friendly and ergonomic. It would be a bit thicker to facilitate the bigger battery and the screen has been made a bit smaller.
  2. All Black Satin case
I would love to see the entire iPhone in a sleek flat black satin case (similar to the iPod Classic). Give me chrome buttons and Apple Logo, a flush headphones jack and stereo speakers.
  3. 3MP Camera(s) with LED Flash
Giving the recent reports of the new SGold chip that can handle up to a 5MP camera, it’s only natural that we should at least get a 3MP camera and some sort of flash. You will also notice I added a camera on the face of the iPhone for video calling. I hope Apple does the same.
  4. Radical New Slide out QWERTY Touchscreen Haptic Keyboard
This is the big one, the one that caught your attention when you first saw the images. I know what you are thinking, and I felt the same way too, until I started thinking about it.
What if the iPhone had a second screen that slid out and had a QWERTY that you can use to compose email, write memo’s/notes, use with Safari to blog etc. Imagine the visible screen real estate this would introduce? All that space used with the keyboard in landscape would now be visible.

The button/key locations would be fixed to allow them to be slightly raised, so that the user can feel the difference between keys and they would give haptic feedback, but the built in LCD will allow the charecters to be changed on the fly depending on the app and the characters needed.

When the phone is closed (normal) you can use the usual touch keyboard/touchpad/dialpad etc, but at anytime, you can flip into landscape and either use the landscape on screen keyboard, or slide out the qwerty and type ultra fast.

The Keyboard could reconfigure to the App that you are using. For example, imagine using iChat, you can get the normal keyboard, or one with smilies or special characters.

Imagine GAMING!!, You can have the game controller on the slide out and see the full game on teh screen. No more fingers in the way of game play!!!

There are rumors that Apple may release more than one iPhone in June. Having two or more phones in the iphone line up may be a good thing and position Apple to compete with RIM Blackberry, who’s buyers may want a QWERTY keypad on a 3G business phone that they can feel the buttons with their money making thumbs. - either way we all know that what ever Apple releases will be the shizzle.

If you would like to comment please do so, remember this is all for fun, and not to be taken too seriously. Let me know what you think the 2nd Gen will look like, what you would like to see and what you think Apple will come with?
