I am not going to label this as a Rumor, even though I want to, just for the selfish desire for the SDK to be released as soon as possible. Businessweek’s Blog is reporting that its snoops have found out that due to last minute tweaks and decisions about what exactly to reveal with the SDK.
I am sure allot of egotistical hackers out there are thinking that Apple is trying to circumvent any possible jailbreak/activates and unlocks on its new upcoming iPhone SDK Firmware.
Even though I know there are a group of developers (ex hackers) at Apple sitting a dark room trying to block any attempt at future iphone hacks, Apple’s delay wouldn’t be because of us.
The logistics alone of such a launch, both on Apples internal network and buseinss channels, to its partners, developers, third party developers, lawyers and copyright departments and tying up all loose ends. Apple really cant afford for this firmware to have problems, opening up the phone to 3rd party apps can have allot of side effects on the property of Apple & At&T customers.
Thousands of crashed iPhones (or millions) could result in HUGE financial losses for both apple and AT&T if something goes wrong with any of the apps launched with the SDK and/or new firmware.
It also raises the question, will a delay in the SDK delay a new firmware? Is there even a new firmware? Will Apple release a new firmware to lock unlockers out and lay down the firmware foundation for the SDK. My thoughts are that Apple will not release a new firmware without the SDK, its just too much development needed to create the two consecutively, and one/both would already be hot on the heels of January’s 1.1.3.
I think Steve is going to announce some new locations where the iPhone will be sold (Australia, Canada and maybe China), preview the SDK interface and some apps and partners, and may, just maybe, make a couple of the apps available on iTunes (for a fee and probably for free when the SDK is officially announced and a new firmware is released)
We all know that Apple launches new stuff and usually makes announcements on Tuesdays, and everyone has had their eye on Feb 26th as the launch date, will this delay be just another rumor, or Apple giving itself some room to debug the SDK and launch apps. All I got to say is that Steve better not go back on what he said.
